I would like to hear you thoughts on those 2 ideas:
Idea #1
Whenever a post has received a certain amount of "poor post"-ratings (I'm thinking maybe 2 or 3), the post will be "toned down", since it's clearly a bad post (though not bad enough to be deleted) or it's offtopic to a thread. This way, bad/offtopic posts will not be as visible in a thread, as ontopic posts will. The post will remain visible, but maybe only show the first line or something, and the reader will have to click "show" to read the rest of the post. Something like that.
Or would it be better with a seperate "mark as offtopic"-button for each post, so after X amount of "marked as offtopic", the post will be less visible (as mentioend above).
Idea #2
To prevent misuse of the fraud system, I'm thinking of making it visible whoever is rating a post. As of now, if a post is neutral, a "0" will be shown. If 3 people rated it good and 1 rated it poor, the value would be "+2". Now, if a reader then clicks this "+2" value, a short list of all ratings will be shown (the 3 users rated "good" and the 1 user rated it "poor" .

I think the second idea is great. That way you can allways see who is rating. Only problem is maybe not everybody can take the criticism and it might come to some mud throwing in the forum. As to the first idea i think a seperate "mark as offtopic"-button is the way to go.

If people can't take criticsm and starts hunting those giving "poor rating", then we can quite easily block them from future ratings so they can't rate anyone else again
Or, before somebody can rate others, they must have more than 50 posts or something, to ensure that only serious forum users will rate.

The idea about 50+ posts is good as long as it is credited posts. Some of the posts are only a couple of words where some guy agrees with the poster before.

Numbers of rating have changed, and yes, they have become worse. This comes as a surprise to me, as anything would when it´s unannounced. I didn´t even get a memo!

Oh, I see, but what do I have to do with someone else´s bad behaviour? I just wanted someone to be decent enough to say, hey, this and that happened and because of that you are going to lose something. I ask for nothing other than an explanation. But anyway Italia, thanks for the effort!

How come none of you like idea #1? What do YOU guys suggest in order to "remove" (but not delete) offtopic posts from threads? Think outside the box please
thefodz, Actually - it's a positive problem that you might be the one who was hit "worst" when I removed those 60+ bogus ratings from that guy, cause he just rated random posts as "good", took entire threads and rated them all from top to bottom, very unserious. So when I removed his 60+ ratings, then, since you post alot, alot of them might have been removed from your posts. Has nothing to do with anything you did though
And that's also why we need to come up with something so people can't just rate 100 random posts as "good", maybe restrict ratings for somebody who made 50 posts or more, so we know it's a serious and active forum user, doing the rating.

About idea #1. I guess it could be good in some of the very long threads because the posts that are off-topic would be reduced to one-liners. Then you would not have to sift through so many lines of text to get up to speed.
i like both ideas, i also think that threads should be paged so you dont have to scroll so much, dont have to sift so much each time you go to a thread.
i think i have seen someone else say this aswell so hopefully im not stealing anyones thunder

Admin, ok I understand now what happened. No problem, everything is clear!
In regards to post rating, the ideas that you mentioned are good, but I still think we are missing a key element here. I don´t even know it myself, but as sson as I think of something, I´ll give some feedback.
