Donkeys & Morons  0
Dear All,

I am quite new in poker, had learnt a lot & managed to win some bankrolls (may be not big enough compared to the other seniors).
Here I wonder why the above phrases being shouted by some players when they lost to players that played with smaller cards.
Recently I won against a player with 4,6 spades. 1st, nobody raised & I went on playing. For me, i better play when the table is cheap. If somebody had raised, might be I'd retreat.
The flop was k,6 & Q & the price was reasonable. I called.
It ended with A & 9.
That guy raised with pot balance. I took a long thought but at last went on.
His cards were 10 & 7 !
He called me loser, donkey & moron for calling with 4 & 6.
But was I the loser? No, I was the winner. I did not see any sign of straight cards when it were K,Q & A.
He was mad because I called. But I think he was the one that insane for raising like hell with 10 & 7!
A bluff??? No, that was not the good one.

For me, if somebody with lower cards could beat me.. I'd give my respect for choosing the correct way.

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

He was obviously, as dozn writes, trying to represent J10. Good or bad call? Can't really say with this information. If you had a good read on him, it might have been well played. But I do not think I would have called.

Anyhow, as you write, he was the loser there, and not you. I once ran into a german at Everest that made quite a bad bluff with AKo, no hit, and a backdoorflush on the table. I had QQ. I called his all in on the river, and he went ballistic, calling me all sorts of things, and told me I should learn to fold. I had quite fun acting really stupid in the chat saying things like: "But if I had folded I would have lost, wouldn't I? Isn't that bad?" And so on, making him even angrier. The next hand I had QQ again, and got him all in again, with 55...

Anyway, him calling you names shows, IMO, that he is a bad player. You should just make fun of him, pretend that you are really stupid, and keep winning from him. Smile

calling a pot bet with the lowest pair on the board? hmmmmm... even thou he was trying to bluff it was a very "heroic?!?" call. You say you thought about it and decided he had probably nothing in that case you should have raised.

id say by reading what you have put that donk would be the right word.
maybe with more information would be easier to say weather u were right or wrong
seems to me like u will always see the flop no matter what hand you have u can lose alot of chips/money playing like that yea it does pay off from time to time but really u shoulda folded 6 4 pre flop. i would say learn to fold and try not to play to the flop with shiit cuz when u fold after a bet will be a waste of chips.

i agree theres no need for insults but some people cant stand getting beat. i would say the other player also played the hand badly so he has no place to say your a donk/moron

Thats the point. No matter who looses or how badly someone played a hand I nearly all the time keep quiet.
Only sometimes I throw into the chat a big lool Big Smile , when somebady donked to bad or gave me a bad beat on the river.

Well, I´ll be honest.
Both of you played that pretty badly.
From the comment you wrote above, I had guessed it was a freeroll or something similar.
Nobody goes all-in for real money when they hit the nuts (in this case the straight).
You would not chase your opponent away, but try to get the maximum chips off him.

This guy tried a very poor bluff, and it didn´t pay off.
It always amazes me to no end that these people get mad, because they expect a "normal" fold to that kind of raise, when their bluff is very bad in itself.
Kinda stupid to comment then, to say the least.

In any case, you´ll see a lot of this nonsense in freerolls and micros, where people think bluff is King!
And when it doesn´t pay off, they get pissed.

Meaningless really, just don´t pay any attention to it is my advice.
And definitely don´t let it get to you. Blink

MIGO is right. You need to be calm when someone gives you a suckout or beats you on river with 2 outs Blink It happens and it's part of the game to understand it. If you won't it's the best way to get tilted Blink

Typical freeroll actions...you will find many people talking crap in freeroll tournaments... It wouldnt even of mattered if you had a set of aces in that hand I think that guy would have still called you those names....get used to it, and dont retaliate, it can just throw you off on tilt....

Looking back to when I first started...got called every name under the sun. The problem for me, I finally figured out I really didn't know how to play this game. I didn't know about starting hands and position. Among other aspects of the game, this I learned this is very important. Once I understood this I realized, the names people were calling me had some truth to it. Now, win or lose as long as I know I played correctly...that's all that matters.

Dear Mr Rbdflyboy,

I thought when we play poker, the objective is 2 win..
back may be 6 mths i play this game, found some seniors in chat room..
what they teach is mostly.. be patient .. try 2 read other players' game..
try to find their weakness..
sorry to say.. but i never been thought to lose..
may be i m new.. but a few cents that i won.. it brings relief to me..
let say.. won 1.35 from 7500 players.. i feel great..

The important thing is to play your own game and not to let anybody rattle you. I have won some very nice pots with just ace high when I was on top of my game, knew my opponent and had a read on him. Don't pay attention to abusive players, but don't turn the chat off either as it is important to know when someone is tilting. Someone who is openly tilting in the chat box is an easy target to be de-stacked IMO. Also don't berate the donkeys who hit against near impossible odds, they truly are your friends in the long run, even if it hurts occasionally. Even better, if I beat someone in a big hand and they played poorly with bad cards, I will try and make them feel better, stick around and reload. Tell them things like "unlucky" and "almost". Big Smile
