Cirque du Soleil founder creates $1 million buy-in tournament

Forget about all the expensive poker tournaments you have heard of before. At 2012 WSOP there will be a tournament with a 1 million dollar buy-in, and players like Doyle Brunson, Patrik Antonius, Gus Hansen, Andy Beal and 'Tony G' already have already accepted the invite. The name of the tournament is "The Big One for One Drop" and Guy Laliberte, the founder and CEO of Cirque du Soleil*, is the m[...]   Read more » Cirque du Soleil founder creates $1 million buy-in tournament

This should be a very enthusiastic tourney. I am glad about the names that are already confirmed, but i would like to see other big names, like durrrr, Daniel Negreanu, Izildur1... We know we will not see Phil Ivey in this tourney because he already confirmed he won't participate in this year0s WSOP, but i am sure that if this tourney was made apart from WSOP, he would be there for sure! Lets see who wins this Euromillions! Looks like the only non-pro in the field will be Cirque du Soleil founder himself, lets see how he handles!

1 million is too much money for a tournament only the big pros and rich businessman can afford to play in this one. would be surprising if no of players reach past 20.

If it was up to me I would say it's impossible to have 48 players in 1M BI tournament. But well... it's very possible. I think there will be more than 22 players, but also I'm sure there could be some rich newbies and it would be quite stupid when some buisnessman on a rush would win WSOP bracelet.

@Fakiry - this tourney will be in 2012 WSOP, so IMO Ivey will play Smile

Pretty old news actually since statement was made about a week ago. Still i think the buy in is more for getting a lot attention about the event. Of course very few people will be able to join this tournament, if we speak about poker players. I wouldn't be surprised if some poker pro will take stakings for this event from rich guys that want to won even more, i mean a pro like Daniel Negreanu or other pro that 1 million Dollar Dollar would be too much to pay for just one tournament, something similar to what we saw on the latest james bond movie, i mean casiono royale Smile
As for poker players i think only those that won over 15 million dollars in their career will be able to afford this buy in, i mean Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel, and Gus Hansen for example.
Also some wealthy buisnessman will be interested to join due to the media attention they'll get
Smile

Daniel Negreanu is one of the biggest winners ever. He can afford it - 100% sure about that Smile. Then you have a lot of the online stars - durrrr, brian hasting, jungleman12 etc - that gamble for hundreds of thousands every week. I'm sure a few will take part. However, I agree with you that the tournament might attract a few businessmen with too much money.
