Guy Laliberté Builds UFO Landing Spot

Guy Laliberté recently made headlines in Spanish newspapers for building a monument outside his villa in Ibiza. The monument consists of 13 monoliths with the highest being over 20 meters and decorated with 23 carat gold. According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the Canadian billionaire and founder of $1m Big One for One Drop received a record breaking fine for building it without a planning permission.

Many believe that Laliberté, who was one of the first space tourists, built the monument as a landing spot for UFOs. What do you think?

In case you have been hiding under a rock for the past few months, we are happy to inform that the one million dollar buy-in event BIG ONE FOR ONE DROP will be back at the 2014 World Series of Poker after a year of absence. The event will take place over three days, from June 29 to July 1, 2014, with all play being filmed for television.

According to WSOP's website, poker players at the 2013 World Series of Poker raised more than 1.3 million dollars for One Drop, a non-governmental organisation based out of Montreal, Canada that fight poverty worldwide by supporting access to clean water.

Big One for One Drop, the biggest buy-in tournament in poker history, took place in Las Vegas during the 2012 WSOP and attracted a field of 48 professional players and amateurs who put up $1 million each. The tournament was won by Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari ($18.3 million) and raised a total of $10 million for charity.

The most expensive tournament in poker history has come to an end - The Big One for One Drop ($1,000,000 buy-in). Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari ended up taking home the whole thing and bank-account busting $18,346,673 - the richest prize in poker history. Besides that, he received his second gold bracelet after winning the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold'em event in 2004 for $184,860.

WSOP Big One for One Drop: 30 players confirmed so far (1 million buy-in)

Yesterday ONE DROP Chairman and Cirque du Soleil Founder Guy Laliberté announced that 30 players have confirmed that they will participate in the $1,000,000 buy-in event on July 1-3 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

In total, the event has space for 48 players, so another 18 seats are still available. According to WSOP.com, $111,111 from each $1,000,000 buy-in will be donated to ONE DROP with the goal of raising enough money for a legacy project that will help a country with access to clean water. The event is rake free, so if "only" 30 players take part, more than $3,33 million will be donated to ONE DROP.

In July next year it's time for a new charity tournament named Big One for One Drop. The tournament will be played during the 2012 World Series of Poker and all participants will automatically give $111,111 from the $1 million buy-in to water projects all over the globe. There are already a few big names confirmed for the tournament. Among these players one find super stars like Patrik Antonius, Gus Hansen, Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan and "ElkY".

At 2012 WSOP there will be a tournament with a 1 million dollar buy-in, and players like Doyle Brunson, Patrik Antonius, Gus Hansen, Andy Beal and 'Tony G' already have already accepted the invite. The name of the tournament is "The Big One for One Drop" and Guy Laliberte, the founder and CEO of Cirque du Soleil*, is the man behind the tournament, which he also will take part in.

The danish poker pro Gus Hansen has been running extremely bad in the past couple of years. In the beginning of this year, however, he started off in the best possible way by winning a few hundred thousands and it almost seemed like he was going on a winning streak and would take back some of the money he lost.

But it didn't take long before he started losing huge amounts again. And now it almost seem like 2010 will be his worst year ever as he has been on the top 5 list of the weekly losers many, many times this year. Not a very good sign even when it comes to some of the world's richest and best high stakes players.
