About 2 months ago we wrote about Tobey Maguire, best known from the Spider-Man movies, and that he was sued for $300,000 for taking part in illegal poker games where Bradley Ruderman, a Beverly Hills hedge fund manager, played for his clients money. Maguire was not the only one who took part in these illegal games. am i understanding this right? they had a "home game" which to me is abuncha friends getting together at ones house for poker, and are in trouble for it?. wow i can just see the piggys rolling in on our lil 10man 20$ buyin games. GET ON THE FUCKING FLOOR!!!!!!!!
------------ just reread it again and see he was playing for his clients money...i can see the issue now
What I don't understand is... Who's sueing them? The police? And what makes a cash game legal actually? heh Maybe they should've kept their mouth shut about it but still...
I hate useless laws like this. If they want to risk their money playing poker, they have the right to. It's their money!!

This to me sounds like the US is just trying to get as much negative press on poker as possible, so they can show people the positive and wonderful side of them "legislating" gambling.
It's all b******t to me, how they are manipulating every possible facet of media to give poker such a bad light.

Posted by Macubaas: From what i know it's not illegal to organize a home game and of course if the players are ballers of course there will be some crazy pots out there.
In the US this is classed as "Social Gambling" and is illegal in the following states: Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia, and Wisconsin
So, crazy thought this seems, if they were in one of the above states they were braking the law.

such a shame first you work hard winning the money and then you have to return money because the loser stole it from other people. but it was illegal so he must have known the risks
