Gus Hansen is one of the few high-stakes poker pros who give us a glimpse of what goes on behind the doors of Bobby's Room at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Even though he failed to cash a significant amount that befits a super high-stakes player during the 50th year anniversary of the WSOP (he won $20,200 for placing 689th at the 2019 WSOP Event #73: $10,000 Main Event), Hansen was able to accumulate a stack that reached seven figures at Bobby's Room, which he proceeded to cash out.

Posted on 21 June 2013 by "T".

Just a few minutes ago, American poker pro Erick Lindgren (a well-known figure from the classic televised cash game High Stakes Poker) took down Event #32: No-Limit Hold'em (Six Handed) after a very interesting heads-up against Lee Markholt, who was looking to win his first bracelet.

Lindgren brought a massive lead to heads-up play, but Markholt gave him a good fight. It didn't take long before Markholt doubled up with a flopped straight vs KK of Lindgren. After that he went on a winning streak to bring the stacks to about even. However, Lindgren never let go of the lead and proved too strong for Markholt who received $374,960 for finishing runner-up after losing several big pots. Lindgren received $606,317 in prize money and now has 2 WSOP bracelets under his belt!

Meltzer's will: $500k to the doorman. $1 million to the driver.

Posted on 01 February 2012 by "T".

A few months ago poker player and music mogul Alan Meltzer passed away. Two days ago, the New York Post wrote what Melzer repaid faithful workers who gave him a shoulder to cry on - by making them rich after his death. One of them is upper East Side doorman Chamil Demiraj, who received $500,000, and the other one his chauffeur Jean Laborde, who received $1,000,000.

"I appreciate it," Demiraj said. "He was a generous guy. He was a really good friend of mine, and I was a good friend of his. It's a surprise. Peace and rest to him. That's all I can say."

"He was always joking. He never looked down on anybody,'' said Laborde, a 54-year-old father of five from Irvington, NJ. "He was such a nice guy. He left me money, but it's not a good deal for me because it means he's no longer here.''

The High Stakes Poker saga comes to an end

Tags: gsn, high stakes poker, season 8 high stakes poker
Posted on 08 December 2011 by "T".

For 6 years, High Stakes Poker has been one of the most popular cash games on television. There have been 8 seasons of High Stakes Poker since they started broadcasting the show on GSN in January 2006, and since the very beginning the biggest names in the poker world have taken part and lost/won millions of dollars.

This year, however, the show's viewer ratings have been been extremely poor and many have stopped watching the show. In fact, the low viewer base of High Stakes Poker might mean the end of the show as GSN won't continue broadcasting the show next year. And it remains unclear whether or not any other TV channel wants to continue broadcasting the show. In other words, season 8 might be the last season of High Stakes Poker.

High Stakes Poker Season 7: The first episode is out!

Tags: full tilt poker, high stakes poker, pokerstars, season 7
Posted on 28 February 2011 by "T".

The first episode of the 7th season of High Stakes Poker was released a few days ago. A lot has changed in the new season of the very popular poker show. For example, Gabe Kaplan has been replace with the comedian Norm MacDonald and the game is now taking place at the Bellagio Casino. However, the biggest news (and saddest) is that no Full Tilt Poker pros will take part.

The main reason for this is that PokerStars is the sponsor of the show and also because they have bought the HSP achieves. In the early season of HSP, the players didn't wear logos and Full Tilt is concerned that the viewers will be confused by their affiliation when the shows will be available on, for example, pokerstars.tv

Video: Gus Hansen's worst bluff ever

Posted on 09 March 2010 by "T".

In an episode in season 6 of High Stakes Poker, Gus Hansen, the Full Tilt Pro, tried to buy a pot from Eli Elezra with some really bad bluffing from begin to end. What makes it even worse is the fact that Gus Hansen had absolutely no draws or anything and still he couldn't lay down his hand. The bluff costed Gus Hansen around $100,000! However, its for sure not the last time we see Gus Hansen make a crazy play like this one.

Gus Hansen was after the show interviewed by the host Kara Scott. Kara was of course very interested to know what Gus had to say about the bluff which failed.

"I like my bets on flop and turn, but I hate the ace on the river. And still I decide to make another big bet, which really seemed like an obvious bluff. This is probably the worst bluff I have made in my entire poker career."
