Durrrr challenge: Durrrr in the lead!

Tom Dwan is back in the lead against Patrik Antonius after about 6 600 hands have been played between them in heads up. Durrrr now leads with USD$67,000 after that he won the 10th session last Sunday. Tom Dwan is not just winning the Durrrr challenge at the moment, he is also winning some serious cash on the side. Only this month he's about $1,000,000 plus already. Only Phil Ivey has won more thi[...]   Read more » Durrrr challenge: Durrrr in the lead!

I don't really like Durrrr, When i watch him play, it just seems like he plays garbage hands and either (1) gets lucky and hits, or (2) bluffs by overbetting tremendusly

Actually I thaught very much the same thing about Durrrr untill recently when I saw him on the new season of High stakes Poker where he has played tremendous poker so far, maybe his play is just working out but I think he has done well, he has successfully inducted a lot of action when he has hit and made some great bluffs when he didn't .

This.

He plays very loose. But he knows how to do it properly.

But thats precisely what makes him so good. He can play 7 2 offsuit as if its aces and the opponent has absolutely no idea where he stands in the hand.

If you watch Durrr closely he never ever plays the same hand the same way twice. one hand he will limp with KK then the next hand hes raising with 5 6 offsuit.

You just dont know where you stand with him and that is the sign of a great professional

Still, that being said it is a spike heavy play style. One that doesn't work unless you are on a roll, in whioch case it works extremely well. While I do think he has played increadibly well in High stakes poker so far he has enjoyed a lot of hits in the right moments so far.

He is unbelivebly good. The challange is going to be a long one at this rate. I can't wait for Phil Ivey's turn to face him.

The reason he can get away with it is the level at which hes playing.

When you are playing $50/$100 blinds then aggression works but try that at 10/20 cent limits and watch what would happen. He'd go bust in a couple of hours.

Now his reputation precedes him and when hes in a pot with someone, because hes so cavalier with his chips and doesnt give a toss about losing a few thousand, people are more wary of him and are more likely to lay down their hand knowing the levels hes prepared to go to are so high its just not worth the risk.

He is without any doubt the most aggressive player on the net, but he can be at the limits hes playing at. Put him in a 2/4 cent limit game and see what his ROI is then...

Sure, but do you think any of the pro's he's playing with online or on high stakes poker for that matter let the amount of money involved stunt their game? Hardly, or they wouldn't be playing those levels. The reason he is making money is that he has his aggressive game worked out, but still, in cases where he doesn't hit with his marginal hands or where his opponents does his game won't work out as well. It relies on having a bit of luck on your side, which of course odds suggest you occasionally will.

Durrrrrr is so sick all hes gotta do is cough n he will make money... (if that makes sense at all sick n coughing go hand in hand n ive had tiny bit far too much to drink)
anyway IMO its his LAGGGGGGG image wich helps him get paid off wen he hits n like shokaku said he knows how to control his aggressionn

The empire strikes back.

After the last session Antonius has retaken the lead. Close to 7100 hands are played. Antonius is up 23k.

Durrrr is the kind of poker player you can't say "I think you have ace high so my pair is probably good, I call" when you're playing against him. It would be a miracle to find out exactly what's he's holding because as mentioned me mixed up his play very often with different hands.
