HighStakes: Gus Hansen vs Tom 'Durrrr' Dwan

Tags: Full Tilt, Gus Hansen, High Stakes, Tom Durrrr Dwan.
Posted on 19 January 2009 by "T".

Last night the action was really on at Full Tilt as Gus Hansen and 'Durrrr' Dwan played heads-up on the highest limits. The blinds were $500/$1000, and the game was Pot Limit Omaha. Thousands of people were watching, and not many of them can have been disappointed with the action and excitement this duel delivered.

Both Gus Hansen and Tom 'Durrrr' Dwan are known to be 2 of the best and most aggressive players on the high stakes tables . But the most aggressive of them this night was perhaps 'Durrrr' who made some impressing calls to testify that he isn't scared of anyone. Many people might think that he would change his style of playing after that he lost over $2 million this month. 'Durrrr' proved them to be wrong. Even though 'Durrrr' played very well and made some impressing moves, it was Gus Hansen who was the better player this night.

The biggest and most important pot this night was played out this way.

Pre flop
Gus raise to $2000
'Durrrr' re-raise to $6000
Gus re-raise to $18,000
'Durrrr' re-raise to $54,000
Gus call

Flop
The pot is now up to $108,000 when the flop 3Club 9Diamond 10Diamond hits the table.

'Durrrr' bets the pot and Gus calls with his last $66,000

'Durrrr' shows 3Diamond 9Club KDiamond KClub
Gus shows 9Spade QHeart ASpade JHeart

Turn and river
Turn JSpade, River KHeart

Gus Hansen takes home the pot of around $240,000 with a straight and has now won over 1,8 million dollars in just 48 hours.

B1gfoot, there's rumors Dwan only has 1 mill on FTP?

shokaku, how do you think the Million Dollar Challenge will go? I would like to see Dwan go undefeated Smile

sirthomas, thanks for the link. I seen the holdem calculator on cardplayer, maybe omaha calculator is new.

 Calmplay21/01/2009 14:19:56 GMT
Before that challenge, there will be the 1 million dollar Aussie Millions cash game 2009 in which Dwan & Hansen for sure are in Thumbs Up just can't wait.

Depends on who is really playing.

- Against Antonius he will have a tough time

- Against Ivey a lot depends on how fast Ivey can adapt to 4 tabling

- Against Benyamine he should be a favorite

Maybe Guy takes him on. Blink

How can you have 0 posts, if you posted one? Jambastic?
You are a very strange man.

p.s. in omaha nothing is impossible...
 GeneYuss22/01/2009 04:58:48 GMT
polevaulter, either it is because his post was less than 100 characters or it was because he posted on a new's article.

shokaku, good analysis Smile and did you mean Gus? I know Dwan and Hellmuth have a rival thing going lol but I don't think Hellmuth would want to play this challenge.
 M3turbo22/01/2009 13:00:57 GMT
Patrik Antonius HU is extremely dangerous I don't know how good he is multitabling HU but I guess time will tell.

I think Dwan has an edge against Ivey and Benyamine with 4 tables HU.

I hope Pat. A. crush him, by time I think Dwan has become somewhat arrogant.

Not Gus, Guy Laliberte. The Guy who fuels the high stakes games with his losses.

But Durrr vs Hellmuth would also be nice. Big Smile

1 mill in FTP points geneyuss, uses them as buy ins to tourns.
M3 with you there Patrik Antonius will crush him (i hope) thats why he wants first :})and he has got arrogant iv lost all respect for him,but also think Benyamine has agood chance, he aint afraid of going broke.
Hellmuth would not stand a chance HU and he knows it thats why he has not got involved.
 eaziabi23/01/2009 01:28:24 GMT

Ah so it's not only me who's tired of that arrogant prick plz close that boys mouth before someone knocks his milk teeth out Shock <-- lol no teeth.
I don't know much about David B's game or skills in multitabling HU but I know for sure that he's got balls like a bull when it comes to poker. Might be interesting match if it happens.
Im pretty sure Patrik Antonius can handle wannabe king of FTP even though he's very dangerous multitabling HU.
 GeneYuss23/01/2009 10:37:21 GMT
shokaku, I seen Guy Laliberte on Poker After Dark Cash Game Week. Did you see it?

.."95% share holder of the 1.2 billion dollar Cirque Du Soleil.. lost nearly 20 million dollars online in 2007, and nearly 10 million dollars in 2008."

Whoa, would be fun to watch Laliberte and Dwan play but I think Dwan would win for sure?

Sure. Over 50.000 hands and 4 tabling Guy would not have any chance.

Hahaha he wouldn't have a chance against anyone he is playing to lose Tongue People stand in line to play when he is at a table even people who normally don't play high stakes because he is a lottery ticket with good odds.
 B1gfoot23/01/2009 12:04:55 GMT
Laliberte lol, no comment.
But i here Poker After Dark has just pulled all there players somethig to do with full tilt getting more publisity i think.

 B1gfoot23/01/2009 12:17:19 GMT

So no more Clonie on PAD?

Its looking that way, might just be a little tiff that will be sorted, if not full tilt get all the glory i guess, dont think PS want that.
 GeneYuss24/01/2009 22:07:47 GMT
Did you hear Seinfeld Actor Jason Alexander will be on PAD?

Did Clonie get her money from Full Tilt?

And PAD will no longer have Full Tilt Pros on their show?
 doomdy25/01/2009 09:41:48 GMT

No.

50.000 hands!!! Even at 500 hands an hour it will take 100 hours to play that thing. So even if you rail for a few hours, you will only see a tiny bit of that challenge.
 Moogly25/01/2009 23:48:54 GMT
Damn could be long to make 50 000 hands! maybe 1 month. anyway making 1 millions on 1 month and i would be very happy
 xxxbchxxx31/01/2009 04:33:30 GMT
watching them is frustrating ... just cant get a grip on any stratergy... looks like they mix it up so much .... good if you cant square up
