In December 2013, Full Tilt Poker announced that Tom "durrr" Dwan was no longer a part of its The Professionals. A few days ago, many poker fans over the globe noticed that Viktor Blom and Gus Hansen's pictures had been removed from Full Tilt Poker's website and poker client - which started some speculations on whether they also had been removed from the The Professionals.
As a part of the promotion HEADS UP SHOWDOWN, Full Tilt Poker pros Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Gus Hansen were supposed to play against each other on Sunday, September 14. Another day is in the books at the 2014 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final Main Event. It's been quiet from Viktor "Isildur1" Blom since he took down the SCOOP 2013 Main Event in the end of May. The main reason for that is that he hasn't won nor lost any significant amounts at Full Tilt's nosebleed tables. Well, that was until yesterday when he took on Gus Hansen at the 2-7 Triple Draw and the FLO8 tables. They started the session at the 2-7 Triple Draw tables and "The Great Dane" took the young Swede for about $100k until things took a big turn...
It's not only in Vegas that big sums of money are at stake at the moment, because today a HKD 1 million buy-in (approx. USD$130k) tournament kicks off in Macau, China. On May 16th we wrote about Gus "The Great Dane" Hansen's incredible $1.57 million win in less than 24 hours. Hansen has been very active at Full Tilt's nosebleed tables since then but not managed to book a nice win until last Monday. He started the day by playing heads-up against Alex "Alexonmoon" Luneau at the $1k/$2k 2-7 Triple Draw Tables. The match lasted for four hours and Hansen dominated from start to finish and added $374k to his bankroll.
It's nothing new that Gus Hansen, of Denmark, has lost millions of dollars at Full Tilt Poker. Many of his fans hoped and prayed that things would change once the site reopened for business last year and signed him to its The Professionals, but the bitter truth is that he has continued to lose huge amounts month after month.
The second flight of EPT Monaco attracted a much greater field of players than Day 1A. In total, 423 players came to start and boosted the total number of entries to 531. There were many familiar faces at the poker tables including Viktor Blom, Patrik Antonius, Sam Trickett, Phil Ivey, Jason Mercier and Gus Hansen.
After eight levels of play, the tournament director called it a day and approximately 200 players remained. Only Mercier (48,200) from the players mentioned above survived the day. Victor Sbrissa, who won LAPT Brazil in Sao Paolo a week ago, was in the lead with 224,800 chips, which is a quite impressive results from a single day. Another two notables who made it through the day with about 200k chips were Noah Schwartz and Calvin Anderson.

In case you missed our news stories on the Full Tilt vs PokerStars challenge last week - we recommend that you check them out before continuing. Now, the match between Full Tilt Poker's The Professionals and Team PokerStars Pro took place yesterday at EPT London. In the first match Viktor "Isildur1" Blom (Full Tilt Poker) was up against Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier from Team PokerStars Pro...
It seems like there will be a challenge between Team PokerStars Pro and Full Tilt Poker's The Professionals at the the 2013 EPT London (March 5-16). It started last week with Gus Hansen sending a Tweet to Daniel Negreanu reminding him of a classic hand they played on High Stakes Poker in 2006.
Viktor "Isildur1" Blom had an incredible start to 2013 and was over $5 million plus at Full Tilt Poker for some time, but, as many of you know, he has not been doing so well in the past few weeks. The truth is that he's losing hundreds of thousands of dollars almost every single session!
On Tuesday, the 2012 European Poker Awards took place at the Aviation Club De Paris (a gambling club/casino in central Paris, France). Kara Scott was the host of the night and received the award Poker Personality of the Year.
The candidates for this year's European Poker Awards have now been revealed. One of the nominees is the high-stakes player Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom from Sweden. Blom is up against Jens Kyllönen, Chris Moorman and last year's winner Ilari Sahamies for the Internet Player of the Year award.
The Danish poker pro Gus Hansen, 38, hasn't been doing so well at the poker tables as of late, but it's a completely different story when it comes to racket sports! During the World Racketlon Championship in Stockholm over the weekend, Gus made it all the way to the quarter finals where he was defeated by fellow countryman Kasper Jonsson.
Yesterday Full Tilt Poker revealed in a press release that its former pro Gus Hansen will be the first ambassador when the site re-launch on November 6, 2012. This is what Hansen had to say about his return to Full Tilt Poker.
"I'm very excited to represent the industry's most authentic poker brand," Hansen said in a press release. "Full Tilt Poker has the best games, most innovative software and the strongest poker community; to me this feels like coming home."
"Gus is one of the best-known and most respected names in the poker community," said Sarne Lightman, the newly-appointed Head of Marketing at Full Tilt Poker. "Gus has always embodied the best characteristics of the Full Tilt Poker brand and we are thrilled to have him return as an ambassador."
73 players particiapated in the Macau High Stakes Challenge last Friday. The field included many of the world's best poker players, including Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Erik Seidel and John Juanda. Another famous poker pro who paid the $260,000 entry fee was the American high stakes phenomenon Tom "durrrr" Dwan.
Some of the biggest stars in the poker world are in Macau at the moment. The reason for this is that the Macau High Stakes Challenge, a $258,000 buy-in tournament with an optional rebuy, is starting today, with the winner potentially recieving about $5 million dollars.
The tournament will be played at StarWorld Hotel and Casino's Poker King Club and according to Sam Trickett, 80 players had registered for the tournament yesterday, including Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Erik Seidel, Gus Hansen, Joe Hachem. Trickett will also take part in the tournament. It might be a very expensive week for him if he doesn't get into the money since he just purchased a Ferrari 458 Spider with a price of approximately $257,000.
Yesterday we wrote about Viktor "Isildur1" Blom's epic 11-hour heads up match against EireAbu, one of the most successful PLO HU players on PokerStars this year. The match took place on Tuesday - only hours after PokerStars and Blom announced that they had parted ways - and Blom won the battle and about 200,000 USD. The Swede is up another $40k in the past 48 hours from playing Pot-Limit Omaha and No-Limit Hold'em on PokerStars. However, he hasn't been doing so well in other games...
Gus "broksi" Hansen has been doing very well at PokerStars' high stakes tables lately. Last Friday, he won $431k playing $200/$400 PLO - $350k of those winnings came from late night/early morning sessions against Ben86, duubadaaba, Axel82 and other regulars. In total, he won $548k in 48 hours and was involved in 7 of the biggest pots on Saturday. Here is the biggest pot Gus won...
According to a Danish poker news site, Gus Hansen has once again returned to Macau and joined players such as Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Sam "tri1cky7" Trickett in games where millions of dollars can change owner in just a single hand.
The Danish news site has been in contact with Hansen ever since he arrived in Macau and they report that he has played in games as high as $1,3000/$2,600 with a $5,000 straddle. But things haven't gone so well for Mr. Hansen so far. A big chunk of Gus's losses is due to a hand against Tom Dwan in which he failed to bluff with a HK$1.7 million bet on the river.
Gus Hansen and Sam Trickett are both back in Macau and apparently there are some massive games up running at the moment. According to Hansen's blog, he lost a massive 12 million Hong Kong dollar pot (about 1.55 USD) in one of these games.
"As expected my second session here in Macau was a bit more ‘swingy' than the first one. Unfortunately ‘The Swinger Party' was somewhat expensive as I rarely had the best hand at the river and tried one too many bluffs! I am currently playing my third session here in Macau and things were looking mighty fine until a 6 handed pre-flop pot turned into a 12 million (Hong Kong$) heads-up battle. As the smart reader has already figured out - I didn't win it "
Some time ago we wrote that Gus Hansen was on his way to Macau to check out the insane high stakes games. According to what Gus Hansen wrote in his blog then, he wasn't sure whether or not he would take part in the biggest games.
Now we can confirm that Hansen joined the action in Macau last week and played against Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Andrew Robl, and several Asian businessmen at stakes of HKD$10,000/HKD$20,000 (USD1,287/2,574). According to an Asian poker site, Gus Hansen has crushed the games and he's up about $4 million already.
After a few weeks of silence, the Danish poker pro Gus Hansen once again updated his blog with some pretty interesting news. Hansen writes, for example, that he has arrived in Hong Kong and that he and a Danish friend will go to Macau and check whether or not the rumored high stakes games are as crazy as some people claim they are.
In Macau, Hansen hopes to meet some of his old buddies from Full Tilt Poker - Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey etc. But he still isn't sure if he will take part in the games were some players bring millions of dollars.
It's high time to take a look at the high stakes results of 2011. The Scandinavian poker players dominated the nosebleed tables at PokerStars. In fact, 3 of the top 4 players of 2011 come from Finland and Sweden. Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, from Sweden, won amazing $1.5 million and ended up as the third biggest winner. Most of Blom's winnings come from December.
The Great Dane, better known as Gus Hansen, has now joined fellow team pro Tom Dwan and decided to speak out about the Full Tilt scandal and Black Friday. This is what Hansen's agent told the Danish newspaper EB.dk yesterday.
-Until Black Friday, Gustav was convinced that he was part of an oiled and well-running business machine, with a professional board of directors, who had a clear distinction between player money and money for running the site.
What an incredible performance by Phil Hellmuth at this year's World Series of Poker. He has finished second in two events, cashed in another 3 events, and right now he's in 3th place in the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship with only 9 players left. There is no doubt whatsoever that he will miss out on the final table table (8 players) tomorrow and fight for his 12th gold bracelet. Yes, you heard right: Phil Hellmuth has won not less than 11 WSOP gold bracelets in his poker career!
Day 3 of the $50k buy-in tournament has come to an end. There are plenty of big names left in the remaining field of 29 players - Phil Hellmuth (picture), Gus Hansen, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Berry Greenstein - just to mention a few. Chip leader is Josh Arieh with a 1,819,000 stack, and in second place is Brian Rast with 1,633,000.
At the moment there are only 30 player left in Event #55: The Poker Player's Championship. Chip leader is Josh Arieh, from USA, with 1,8 million, and in second place is Brian Rast with 1,43 million. Most notable players in the top of the remaining field are Phil Hellmuth (1 million), Gus Hansen (900k), Shaun Deeb (745k) and Sebastian Ruthenberg (740k).
Ben Lamb, who started the day with the biggest stack, has 450,000 chips left and has dropped to a 16th place. Well, there is still some time before the day comes to an end and, as we all know, anything can happen in the game of poker! We will return with an update as soon as the day is over. Stay tuned!
Day 2 of Event #55: The Poker Player's Championship came to an end about 2 hours ago. There are now only 8 players left in Event #2 Heads-up No-Limit Hold'em (Buy-in: $25,000 Entries 128). The biggest name in the remaining field of players is the Danish Full Tilt Poker Pro Gus Hansen.
