Tony G to Melanie Weisner: "Ride the unicycle 2 times around a poker table and you'll get $10k"

Posted on 25 January 2012 by "T".

Tony G is a well-known loudmouth in the poker community. When he's not busy trash talking someone at the poker table, he (and many other poker players) likes to bet money on crazy stuff. During the 2012 Aussie Millions, Tony G offered Melanie Weisner, an American poker pro, a seat in the Main Event ($10,000 buy-in) if she could go around a poker table twice on a unicycle.

Melanie accepted the challenge and took off to a circus school and started practicing. After a few hours of practicing it was time to put her unicycle skills to the test. But instead of going around a poker table twice, Tony G said that it was enough if she could go straight for several meters. Tony G, media people and about 20 of Weisners friends gathered outside the Crown Casino. Weisner sat on the bike and took a few test runs before the big test. It looked like she would make it at first, but about 5 meters from the finish line she lost balance and fell.

Tony G wrote on his twitter before the challenge that if Weisner failed someone else would get the chance. But unfortunately he didn't write anything else about it after then.

I looked for this on video but couldn’t find it. Can´t understand how did she fell. I don’t know how to ride a unicycle, but if she had lessons with unicycle pros, if she had time to practice, if she didn’t had to turn around the poker table with the bike but only go forward for some meters, how did she fell? Was it the pressure that made her fall? Having so much attention and the thought about the money prize? About the new possible winner, maybe he will launch some new tourney on his room to share this prize.

How cant you learn to ride a unicycle when you got several DAYS of training with pros ??!! I tried one once and i can tell you you dont need days of practice to go for a straight line ...

I already saw the vid on another poker blog, many like tony g's talking and side bets but personally i think they don't belong to the world of poker pros...

It's just a personal idea.

tony g is as always the pro of self marketing- this is the main lesson we should learn from him, as for melanie- i do not understand why the hell do you take lessons with the pros and end up failing- what the hell are those lessons for? just a waste of time and money imo. gonna ask tony maybe he will offer a similar deal to me?
