EPT Monaco High Roller: Igor Kurganov defeated Daniel Negreanu heads-up

Yesterday we wrote about Justin Bonomo and what a fantastic chance he had to take down his second EPT Monaco High Roller event as he carried a massive lead to the final table. But unfortunately nothing seemed to work for Bonomo on the final table and he fell short in bid for a second High Roller title after getting knocked out in 4th place by Daniel Negreanu.

Negreanu played extremely well on the final table and after several hours of thrilling final table action he ended up playing heads-up against Igor Kurganov for the title. Daniel and Igor traded the chip lead back and forth in the final stages, each doubling up and then being knocked back down. However, it was Igor Kurganov who had the poker gods on his side and eventually all of Negreanu chips as well. Daniel Negreanu received €598,600 for his second place. Kurganov got incredible €1,080,000 for the win!

Daniel must have become a little sad, after sending the expected winner Justin Bonomo home, ending up defeated in the final HU… When starting with similar amount of chips, final HU of a tourney have nothing to do with what was left beind, it’s like starting a new game. Daniel has a lot of experience in this, but maybe it was just like the news said, the poker gods were all on Igor Kurganov’s side.

well i can only add to what most of you already mentioned- a bit sad to see daniel loosing- he is one of those few players that one can associate online poker with- really passionate player, loves his trade, nice guy, amusing at the table- all round a great person...so it's always nice to see him winning, at least he got a 2nd...

Daniel Negreanu is an excelent poker pro. I've read a lot from him, and he's one of the best poker players from all times and all around the world.

Probably heads up was very difficult, but thumbs up for him!

Daniel is a brilliant live poker player, especially tournaments, but i have to admit that heads up never was his strong point...

I noticed that on different stages of games, still congrats to the winner and for Daniel too!

Yeah he's a low baller.

Which is why I found this statement interesting on poker ankings in his profile:

"Daniel is known for his aggressive style of play"

Really?lol

Admittedly i have only seen highlights and some tournament footage but he doesnt strike me as aggrrssive - his whole ethos is built around chipping up by winning small.

Maybe he's changed strategy a bit lately.
