Matt Glantz Leads First-Ever WPT Alpha8 ($100,000 buy-in)

The very first World Poker Tour Alpha8 event kicked off yesterday at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. A total of 18 players signed up for the $100,000 buy-in event and three players even made a rebuy during the day!

The second day of the tournament kicks off 18:00 CET tonight and Matt Glantz (American poker pro with more than $4.5 million in live tournament winnings) will bring the largest pile of chips to play. Below are the chips counts for the remaining 9 players, who will battle it out for a first prize of $891,660!

Matt Glantz - 410,500 (82 bb)
Jason Mercier - 375,500 (75 bb)
Steven Silverman - 372,500 (74 bb)
Daniel Alaei - 293,500 (59 bb)
Isaac Haxton - 218,500 (44 bb)
Jeff Gross - 140,500 (28 bb)
Joseph Cheong -106,000 (21 bb)
JC Tran - 94,000 (18 bb)
Bill Perkins - 89,000 (17 bb)

Besides the sweet first-place prize, only another 3 players will make receive a slice of the $2,026,500 prize pool. In other words, expect nothing else than a thrilling final table tonight! We will be back with a final table recap tomorrow morning! Stay tuned!

It's been a while since I've heard anything out of Glantz, but maybe it's due to the lack of coverage in some case. I don't recall seeing his name appear in any of the WSOP events, but maybe I missed it. It would be nice to watch this battle to the end.

What a tremendous line up for this inaugural event. Its a who's who of high rollers, whoever wins this will deserve every penny
