There are many stupid people in this world. Quite often they end up getting themselves into mischief or hurt and expect someone else to bail them out.

I recall a time in Portsmouth, when a 15 year old was breaking into a community centre and fell through the sky light. He was injured but not seriously. Was he marched to his parents and forced to apologise?

Arrested and convicted of breaking and entering? No. He sued the council and was successful in his bid. His argument was that the sky light was not safe. The fact he was not supposed to be there, that there were signs up warning not to climb on the roof and anti-vandal paint was used, the judge decided that because the roof may have been a bit wobbly the poor lad could have a payout. Makes you sick, doesn't it?

And this is a big problem with society today, there is no personal responsibility. As soon as something goes wrong people look for someone else to blame. Someone else who can take the hit so you don't have to. You can't progress as a person because you don't learn how to progress. You learn how to blame. Can you imagine if Sir Isaac Newton, when hit on the head with an apple, turned and said ‘that was bob's fault, he made me sit there' or ‘the gardener put that tree there and didn't tell me about falling apples so it is his fault and he should be sacked'. Thankfully he didn't say that but used this as a learning experience to get better, to get cleverer. Thank goodness for that because had he not discovered gravity we would find it a lot harder to play poker whilst floating around in the atmosphere!

In poker, at one time or another (or after every hand in some people's cases) we fail to take personal responsibility. It is a lot easier to blame a ‘fish' for making a bad call or a noob for going all in with 94o. But what if you take some personal responsibility. What if you look at what you could do better.

How could you have played it better? The result may be the same but the thought process is invariably going to help make you a better player and earn more profits over the long term. There is so much help out there. You may find that posting hands you have won more useful in the advice you get given than the hands that you lost. How can you extract more value in these hands? How can you avoid the spots that you win but end up costing you more because you had bad odds and lose more often?

Only you can take on that responsibility. Only you can make the step to be a better player. If not you, who? If not now, when?

Hi all
/me waves

I will likely be quite controversial at times, thought I better keep it mild to start with Smile
Desperate for what I can improve and suggestions etc. I intend to rip a news article apart for each post and then link it to how we can use it in poker

Congrats icequeen, i don't read most blogs, but i do look forward to reading yours. your first one was a good one, and it says the truth, i've seen that kind of thing happen. lady buys a coffee, spills it on herself, and gets 2 million dollars in a lawsuit, for being stupid. like when i was a kid, you went out, you played, you got hurt, you cryed, you came home, now your parents sue the homeowner cause he has a pothole in his driveway, where you don't belong. good luck icequeen Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship Worship

You are correct in saying that we live in a blame society and this transcends into poker as well. I always blame other people for a bad beat but most of the time it was my own fault

Hello IQA,good to see you will be putting together a blog for us and will be interesting to see what you have in store for us.
Living in the UK you see the 'blame someone else' society at work everyday so it will be good to see what your opinion is.
Good luck.
 IceQueenAce12/08/2014 11:50:38 GMT
Thanks guys, reassuring replies Big Smile

Klash it winds me right up, being a teacher I see it so much with the kids.

Things like when children have misbehaved so much they can't go on the school trip so their parents take them out of school for the day and take them to the same place etc.

Teaches them that they don't have to be responsible

Good stuff IQA Thumbs Up

Wow - fantastic first blog!

I loved it, I was just discussing with my wife, earlier tonight, about how much we both hate the lack of personal accountability / responsibility in today's society.

It makes me sick.

I can forgive any transgression, any act someone commits, I don't judge on anyone and I can look past all manner of fuck ups.

but I if someone has an excuse, some way of pushing the blame to someone/something else.. Jesus fucking christ, god help them from my wrath and fury.

Incidentally - as you also touched on here, this is why I get sooo fucking angry towards 'rigtards' on this site..

It is the epitome of lack of accountability -

People just refuse to own the fact that they have a gambling problem, or that they're not as good at poker as they think they are, or any other reason they might be losing money playing this game. Instead they come up with the most insane bullshit imaginable, to build a scenario where they aren't accountable for their losses.. Instead it's the site forcing them to lose, or even crazier shit about how donks/fish ALWAYS hit their hands. Of course they don't; they're losing players - all you need to do is take the effort to look up their stats to see they're losers - massive losers, that just happened to get lucky in one hand..

Anyway, I'll stop ranting on that. Just wanted to say absolutely fantastic post: much love to you for writing it. You really hit a subject that is close to my heart - whatever you are in life, whatever your issues, whatever you character flaws and whatever you're good at, your positive character traits - fucking own it. Own it all; the good, the bad and the ugly, it's all you and it's all OK so long as you're willing to own it..

As soon as you start denying yourself, you have no integrity any more, you're just a pathetic, delusional loser.

Can't add anything to this - just agree. Whole-heartedly.

IceQueenAce, Blogger ! Now there's a thing. I love your first venture into the world of blogging and hope that more and more people aspire to the principle of self responsibility in this world of it's not my fault. It's one of my favourite subjects and hope that you continue your A* performance as time develops. Good luck with it and hope it all goes well.

Thanks for all your comments guys.

A question: How often do you think a blog like this should be posted? Once a week? Or more/less often?
 yout8514/08/2014 09:09:16 GMT
I think once a week sounds good...
 IceQueenAce14/08/2014 21:36:00 GMT
ok I think my plan is to write it and get it sent in at each weekend, so it can be published on the Monday (don't think they publish at weekends)
