It's been a great week for Greek poker players at the World Series of Poker Europe in Berlin. Greece didn't have a single WSOP bracelet winner in history before the cards were in the air at the Spielbank Casino in Berlin. Now, all of a sudden, they have three!
On Sunday, Georgios Sotiropolous became the latest player to win a title for Greece after besting 545 other players in Event #8: Turbo No-Limit Hold'em w/Re-Entry for €112,133. Sotiropolous, who cashed 5 times at the 2015 WSOP, now has over $1.6 million in live tournament earnings! He joins countrymen Makarios Avramidis and Pavlos Xantholopolous as the only WSOP bracelet winners from Greece.
"It feels good," Sotiropolous said of his victory. "It feels amazing. Winning a bracelet...it's one of my dreams."
"The Greeks are very good players. That's it. We play good poker," Sotiropolous responded when asked about his country's success in Berlin.
