It took about 11 hours of play on the World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown final table before a winner was crowned. Justin Young received the top prize of $669,161 and a seat into the $15k buy-in Monster WPT Tournament of Champions for defeating Garrett Greer heads-up.
Greer started the heads-up battle with a lead and extended it to a 2-1 advantage. Young then won a huge coin flip with ace-nine against Greer's pocket fours. Young had the lead after that hand, and it didn't take many more hands until he won the last remaining chips from his opponent. Greer had ace-eight against Young's king-jack in the final hand. Both players flopped a pair, but Greer remained ahead until the river which gave Young two pair and the title.
In total, Young outlasted a tough field of 1,222 entrants over several days of play to become the champion of this tournament. He told WPT interviewers that he will take the next few days off before returning for the WPT Tournament of Champions tournament.
"It's going to be a tough field, which I'm looking forward to," Young said. "Going back and seeing all of the past champions of the WPT's, and since mine is so fresh, it's going to be a nice moment."
