A ruffian has patiently observed an elderly woman with a walker win at the pokies, decided to follow her and violently pushed her over to rob her winnings. The 88-year-old from Ferntree Gully was walking towards Dorset Rd on Maryville Way last Wednesday (September 7) at 12:30pm after winning at the poker machines at Zagame's in Boronia.
The unnamed elderly woman's handbag was hanging from her walker when a man appeared, pushed her to the ground, took the bag and ran away. She refused to say the amount of cash that was stolen.
Police believed that the suspect had been inside the premises and saw the woman win on the poker machines, and followed her outside.
After the robbery, passersby helped the poor woman back inside Zagame's. She was bruised and therefore taken to the hospital by ambulance, and spent the night there. The CCTV footage revealed a man that the police wanted to question in relation to the crime. The man was described as Polynesian, around 30 years old, wearing blue shorts and a high-vis orange and blue shirt. He had a beard and a shaved head.
The suspect is still at large, and anyone with info should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Knox CIU on 9881 7000.
