Asdtedt, Griff and Tamayo are the last three men standing for the coveted championship title.
The record-breaking 2024 WSOP Main Event is getting closer to crowning a winner at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. What started as a staggering field of 10,112 entries who shelled out the $10,000 buy-in for the biggest live poker event of the year, only three players remain to battle it out for the lion's share of the colossal $94,041,600 prize pool.
Niklas Astedt sat on the top of the leaderboard with 223,000,000 chips to his name, while Jonathan Tamayo (197,000,000) and Jordan Griff (187,000,000) are trailing close behind. The chip leader holds 74 big blinds while Tamayo still has around 66 big blinds at his arsenal, promising deep-stacked action for the exciting conclusion of the tournament.
The two big stacks heading into the day, Niklas Astedt and Jordan Griff, retained their prime spots while Jonathan Tamayo went from 7th in chips to almost on top of the leaderboard at one point. Last year, it took 164 hands to whittle down the final 9 contenders to a winner. This is still possible in tomorrow's grand finale, though very unlikely as 161 hands have already been completed to reach the final three in the record-breaking competition.
Astedt brought down the most opponents as he notched up four eliminations on his way to a stack of 223,000,000, while Tamayo (197,000,000) and Griff (187,000,000) both dispatched one opponent each. Only eight big blinds separate them, though, most fans will give the role of favorite to Swedish online poker legend Astedt, who is known for his nickname of "Lena900". Tamayo's rail included 2015 WSOP Main Event champion Joe McKeehen and four-time bracelet winner Dominik Nitsche.
