Royal Poker Challenge: The winner will get $50,000,000...

Posted on 16 January 2014 by "T".

In the past few days there have been rumours of a $1 million buy-in tournament with a $50,000,000 first prize on March 30th, 2014, at The Star Hotel and Casino in Sydney, Australia. David Chen, the tournament director behind the alleged high roller tournament, claims that 48 players have enrolled already, including members of the British, Danish and Monaco royal familys who have been selected as ambassadors, Hollywood stars and poker professionals.

"Poker is a true game that cuts across all class and income barriers. It tests skills, nerves and courage in a way that's incomparable to other card games. There is no higher drama and examination of character than a high stakes poker game. With a splashing $50m prize, in the remarkable city of Sydney, this should be a historical event indeed," said Chen in a press release (according to the news site and tracking site highstakesdb).

Forget about Las Vegas and Antlantic City. Macau is the place where the big bucks are spent gambling. According to a recent article by CNN NewSource, Macau (a territory in China which lies on the Western side of the Pearl River Delta and was the first and last European colony in the country) had a gambling revenue of 360 billion patacas ($45 billion) in 2013 - an increase of almost 20% over the previous year! To put that amount into perspective, Las Vegas is lucky to have made a $6.5 billion in 2013 (15% of Macau's total). This means that Macua's gambling industry currently is 7 times greater than Vegas!

Christmas Calendar 2013: Lottery Winners

Tags: christmas, lottery, xmas.
Posted on 03 January 2014 by "K".

This year we continued the Lottery from last year, where you could win MobPoints, MobDraw tickets and MobSafe shots. The way to get entry tickets to the lottery, would be if you won a prize in the Christmas Calendar that you were unable to use, for one reason or another. If you won a freeroll entry worth $15 you would get 15 tickets for the lottery if you decided to claim lottery tickets, instead of the actual prize.

The lottery in 2013 would then have the following prizes available:

  • 2 x 4,000 MobPoints
  • 3 x 3,000 MobPoints
  • 5 x 2,000 MobPoints
  • 15 x 500 MobDraw tickets
  • 10 x 100 MobSafe "shots"
  • 15 x 50 MobSafe "shots"

And today we ran the "randomizer" and found the winners to the prizes above. Basically, the more tickets you had, the bigger chances of winning.Read more » Christmas Calendar 2013: Lottery Winners

PokerStars Moves High-Stakes Games to Zoom

Tags: face-paced poker, high stakes, zoom.
Posted on 03 January 2014 by "T".

Since January 1, 2014, all $50/$100 NLH and PLO cash games on PokerStars are played via Zoom - the site's fast-paced way to play poker (if you fold a hand, you will be moved to another table with different players). According to PokerStars, the change was requested by its players and it's not a permanent change for now.

"PokerStars developed a special High Stakes Zoom product with an eye toward replacing all High Stakes games with Zoom, and it's now time to put it to a test," said Nick Williamson, Ring Game Manager for PokerStars, in an interview in December, 2013.

"Our players have told us that they want to focus on playing poker, rather than worrying about seating, lobby and software settings to get them the best seat at the table. This is in an effort to allow players to concentrate on actually playing poker while encouraging a healthy, competitive, non-predatory environment in our highest stakes games," said Williamson.

22 of 61 players made it through Day 4 of the EPT Prague Main Event and unfortunately Ludovic Lacay, the 2012 EPT Sanremo winner, is no longer in the contest. The French poker star had a decent chip lead when Day 4 kicked off and he picked up where he'd left off in Day 3. However, things changed drastically when he called Max Silver's all-in with pocket kings. Silver showed the best starting hand in the game of Texas Hold'em and Lacay ended up losing a significant chunk of his stack. Eventually, Lacay bused in 33rd place by Ori Hansson.
