Aston Villa

Last season:
After an amazing start of the season winning 3-1 away at the Emirates versus Arsenal the season didn’t continue in the same fashion for the Birmingham side. During the second half of the season the team lost 11 out of the 19 matches they played but still managed to stay up with a five point marigin. The loss of injured striker Christian Benteke turned out to be to big for Villa.

2014/15 season preview:
A few years back Villa had a strong team with the likes of Ashley Young, Gareth Barry and James Milner, which almost always finished top half of the table. Ever since they have weakened for each season and after two straight 15-place finished it doesn’t look much brighter ahead of this season either. After putting faith into youngsters during Paul Lambert’s two first years the club have clearly tried to bring in more experienced players this summer signing Kieran Richardson, Philippe Senderos and Joe Cole who are all experienced but they also have their best years behind them.

Player profile:
Christian Benteke was quite unknown to the world of football when Aston Villa decided to pay his Belgian side Genk seven million pound for his services on deadline day 2012. It was an immediate success with Benteke scoring 19 league goals in 34 appearances. Last season was filled with injuries and after injuring his ankle in April he missed the World Cup as well as the first couple of weeks of the upcoming season A healthy Benteke could be the difference between relegation and a safe place In the middle of the table for Villa.

Summary:
Villa have weakened their squad for a couple of years now much due to the unwillingness of the owner to spend money. With players like Vlaar, Delph and Agbonlahor on their roster torgether with an injury free Benteke there are a lot of capacity but it might be hard for Villa to stay out of another relegation battle this year.

Prediction:
17th place

Betting suggestion:
Top Midlands Club (Before Leicester and WBA) @2.10 under Premier League “Outrights”

Aston Villa have been struggling for the last two seasons and they really need to buck their ideas up if they are going to get anything out of this season. I think that Leicester will finish above them

I have to be honest and I thought Aston Villa would have been relegated in the last few seasons .
I don't think Lambert is a premiership quality manager and will expect him to be sacked this season.Villa have definitely decided not to give him any money to spend as he has hardly done any exciting signings. If West Ham got rid of Joe Cole I hardly expect him to set the league on fire at Villa and Richardson and Senderos are hardly in their prime.
Definitely near the bottom this season and relegation probable if a team like Leicester or Burnley survive.
