Posted by DaMessiah666: it wasn't reasonable that Phil Ivey could be compared to Masters of Poker like Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, Amarillo Slim, etc ... |
The rating we are discussing here is only about tournament winnings. We are not talking about greatness. Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, Amarillo Slim, etc could not even dream of the winnings of Phil Ivey. All their wins happened in pre-TV poker history. For example, Doyle Brunson received only 230 000$ for winning WSOP main event in 1976. This is why, disregarding his 10 bracelets and 1 WPT title he is far behind Jamie Gold in winnings.

If they were to adjust all time winnings for inflation, 230,000 in 1976 dollers would be alot closer to 750,000 in todays dollers. I'm petty sure there's a site online that will do the conversion. If u take that into account, Brunson's all time earnings would probably be alot more in line with ivey and Negraneau.

You can say what you like about Ivey, but the best holdem player in the world is Hellmuth. And that is a fact..
Ivey doesnt even come close to winning what Hellmuth has won in Texas Holdem.

In tournaments maybe but, this thread isn't holdem specific, Ivey owns hellmuth in everything else pretty much. Cash, PLO, Online etc
I also think Ivey will have more bracelets in his life time.
And, hellmuth is a knob.

I always liked like he play.... He deserve to be Top 1... but now prize go higher and higher so in future that cash can get someone just for 1 first place... And someone mentioned Doyle.... look at old tournaments... and how much was for first place etc... it's nothing compared to today prizes... So back then u need to win 20 times + to get same cash as now for 1-5

Phil Ivey, the American Full Tilt Pro, recently finished in second place in the $100,000 challenge of Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia. Thanks to the win, Ivey received nothing less than AUD$600,000 ($544,219 U.S. dollars) at the same time as he overtook the first place (earlier held by Daniel Negreanu) in the All Time Money List. This means that Phil Ivey now has won the most money all tim[...]
very deserving... whatever others may say..., so young yet so much talent...

Phil is definately the best player in the world at the moment.. and he has such a perfect poker face... And he just seems to always know right where he's standing in a hand, as if he could read his opponents cards and mind

Phil Ivey is a young and has the ability to put the earning bar so high that it is going to be very hard to beat for the next player.

That's without the Online profits and commercial ones I guess. I like the way he says: bla bla...."and play some poker later"... lol I guess that's the rigght mindset to get where he is now?
