Omaha is the future poker game?

Will Omaha become bigger than Texas Hold'em in the future? That is a question that many people have asked themselves in the past few years as the game just keep on getting more and more popular. So why is Omaha getting so popular? Well, there are probably many reasons for this. The number 1 reason is probably that the game is similar to Hold'em but still much more action filled! Another 2 reasons could be that many poker players are simply getting tired of playing the same old Texas Hold'em or/and because the competition is getting tougher and tougher every day.

If you look at the most high stakes games online these day -- the most of the pros will be playing Omaha instead of Hold'em. And when the pros are playing - thousands of people will spectate, learn and talk about the game. However, even though Omaha is getting more and more popular every day -- we will most probably have to wait a long time before it becomes as popular as Hold'em in live tournaments and cash games.

PokerStars Pros William Thorson and Daniel Negreanu both believe that Omaha is the future for poker online and live. They are both part of the EPT committee which aims to have Omaha tournaments with half the buy-in of the main event on each stop on the tour. If this becomes reality, then we might get to see more Omaha on television in the future.

Here you can find rules and strategy for Omaha High.

Omaha is the "next big thing" for a few years now. But i guess it is a bad game for TV. To difficult for the average viewer to keep in mind the 4 cards every player holds. And of cause it is more vulnerable to collusion.

No I think holdem will be .

i think no because in holdem u can easy control the game yourself and count easy for flush or straight Big Smile
so in omaha is just 4 cards in hand and no control at all so its strong game but the game for really good bluffs and donks is the 1- st one for clever play is holdem and he ll stay in 1-st plays forever Big Smile
good luck all

Omaha is a little more complicated than texas hold em so I think new players will always have to learn hold em first. Omaha comes later for more experienced players as they get tired of hold em although personally I can't see myself tiring of the game. And as shokaku said hold em will always be better for TV so although omaha may grow in popularity it will never match hold em.

I also think that omaha is a little more swingy and those who don't want to play strict poker strategy and those who don't have patience and br management will most likely give up omaha quickly.

im not to sure about this but i have found myself wanting to play omaha more. u have to think more things are not so plain as in hold em and as it says when u check out the pros they are always playing omaha unless they in one of the big money hold em tournys on pokerstars anyway

No, Omaha will not be the pokergame of the future. Texas Holdem no limit shall always be number 1 because of its variety.

No, in my opinion.

In my opinion, a big no.

Texas holdem is more easy to play than Omaha, the thousands of fishes don´t like to think so they don´t play Omaha.

Hello everybody!
it is true that Omaha is a good game too. But very different in strategy. So a big advantage for a pro.

Thumbs Up! Omaha is No1 for me. Tho I like hold em a lot and playing big tourneys, Ive been focusing to omaha for over a year now - results are going all uphill.

It is true you can get a little bored from hold em, but that is not because the field is getting tougher each day - that is because of the low life gamblers that fill hold em tables up, and in some point there are days that you just cant get a control over them. In omaha though, if a gambler sits in, its prety much gdt that he will not leave the table as a winner- plo, hilo, and limit omaha needs some good thinking to be a profitable player and sport betting gamblers whos iq is lower or equal with their age half times, dont have that skill Blink.

Ive been playing a lot, plo, pl holdem mixed tourneys - a lot more interesting and when you are better than just good init, then the money is gdt for you!

So overall, im pretty sure omaha will soon gain same popularity as hold em. Players sould not be so eyes closed - there are loads of good card games out there to make money with Blink

I cannot see Omaha replacing NLHE as king of the poker realm. It will however, come a close 2nd. I can see mixed tournies such as HOSE and HORSE becoming the choice of champs.
 GabeKaplan15/03/2010 21:11:56 GMT
not even close, Holdem will always be number 1, the players I know like Hi Lo not omaha
 Airas16/03/2010 13:45:05 GMT
omaha is the best poker game in the world.
 SuperNoob16/03/2010 17:17:59 GMT
i think plo is the next big step in the world of poker, it requires a lot of skill and unless you are very lucky or a very good player you cant win in it.
even most of the high stakes action is taking place in plo these days

yeah but in my opinion no game of poker gonna be more popular then Hold'em
 leroi2116/03/2010 18:24:17 GMT
holdem is and gonna be for many years the most popular game of poker but omaha come second no doubt about it but for me im not tired of holdem for now so im gonna stay to it
 Lazarus3417/03/2010 20:59:43 GMT
sure omaha is a complex game that requires much skill to win. However deep stack no limit holdem will always be the king of poker games as far as skill is concerned. Heads-Up deep stack no-limit requiring the most skill of all IMO. There's a reason NL Holdem has been used to determine the world championship of poker since long before the game was popularised on TV

PLO HI BEST

I have just come round to the Omaha side of poker and i can tell you its great..
I have only ever had much experiance of NL Hold'Em but i think Omaha could be the way forward.
I really enjoyed the games i played the other night and i dont miss NL Hold'EM at all ...yet!
I'm sure the pro's like it for differing reasons but i found the action much better, the pots much bigger and the brain work even harder, Trying to work out what they could have was never so hard... but fun.
No multi tabling for me...only 2 at a time atm

I agree. For TV this is not exciting enough...
