He bought Eastgate's bracelet

Peter Eastgate, the 2008 WSOP Main Event winner, retired from poker last summer and not long ago he sold his bracelet on eBay - in order to gather money for charity. The bracelet was sold for not less than $147,000 to an anonymous buyer. Ever since the bracelet was sold, there have been many speculations who the buyer might be.

A few days ago, one could read in the Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet that it was Willie Haughey, a Scottish businessman and poker player (won an EPT side event back in 2008), who bought the bracelet for stunning $147,000. However, neither Eastgate or Haughey have confirmed this yet.

How can someone give that money for bracelet? Bracelet worth even more when you win it on WSOP but if you buy it then bracelet doesnt worth anything!

I would think that this bracelet would be worth something if a big name had won it, Negreanu, Hellmuth, Brunson, Ivey, etc. But Peter Eastgate? Who the hell is Peter Eastgage? I know he won the WSOP ME but still, who will remember him in a few years? I know if I won it would be treasured and not sold on Ebay! One can always dream...

I didnt knew that Eastgate left the poker.

any reasons why he decided to dont play more?? Did he lost the money he won from the WSOP ME????

I was wondering why would a champion sell his bracelet before reading the news. Ok, its gold, but it has much more value because of the meaning than because of the material. Eastgate dont want everything for him, that should be honoured. He is retired, but this action can put him running for Poker players hall of fame of all time.

yeah i agree, the bracelet has just a worth, if you are the winner of an event and can be always remind by that. Dont understand how Eastgate could sell it even when he quits playing.

the first post states he sold it to get money for charity which I think is great , I am not sure I would sell the bracelet if I had won it rather give money off the winings but hold on to the gold

isn ´there even the name of the winner in the bracelet? But even if not, you cant pretend winning the main event.. Thats something that the pokerworld would know Blink

i think its great that he did it for charity. nothing wrong with retiring from the game either at such a young age. he always has the option to start playing again.

Even though the cause is worthy,a lot of men have spent lots of time and money and have not even come close to winning somthing as precious as the coveted bracelet.Makes you wonder where his real life priorities are.

It is a valuable assett to a collector as is a super bowl ring or world series ring. It is also worth a lot in sheer metal and stone value. If you are a collector and have the money what difference does it make where your priorities are?
