In the most recent episode of the 2012 EPT Berlin Main Event, Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst and Kevin MacPhee played a very interesting hand. Selbst betted 17k from UTG, MacPhee reraised to 37,000. Selbst made it 79k, and MacPhee 5-bet to 131k. Selbst asked Kevin MacPhee how much he had left, then went all in. MacPhee made the call after 1 minute of going through potential hands Selbst could have.
Selbst (44) looks disgusted when MacPhee turns over A9. Little did it help that MacPhee won the pot with 3 of a kind aces. As you'll see in the video, Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree got caught in the middle of the crossfire. Boeree is the girlfriend of MacPhee, and good friends with Selbst.
It was an evil play by Kevin MacPhee and a sentiment of hanger by Vanessa Selbst that made these two play like this. MacPhee had the idea that Selbst shouldn’t have big stuff and put her against the wall. She knew he hadn’t bigger pair than her and was just doing such move to make her quit, so the best way to deal with him was to increasing his bet to see how far would he go. The number of re-raises almost seems like they were boyfriends, joking with each other. Is there any chance of Selbst feeling some kind of passion for MacPhee and envy her great close friend Liv Boeree? Somehow this seems very possible to be happening, for one who look from the outside. Hear what she says to her friend, opponent’s girlfriend, “he always do this against me…”. Seems love to me… someone’s about to lose a friend.
Selbst only has her self to blame really. Years of playing super aggressive have finally caught up with her. Mcphee was correct when he said, "if you'd push with pocket fours you'd push with A,5." His A,9 is often going to be ahead of her range.
let the metta games begin So sick to see to which thinking levels some players go based on their playing history together "He knows, that I know, that he knows......so I'm all in
well i suppose that's what happens when you play aggressive,as she does. you get you're come-uppance when you don't deserve it,or do depending on how you look at it. well played Kevin.
I'm a big fan of Vanessa Selbst, but to take it a bit personal by saying he always goes after her and they're supposed to be friends isn't a fair statement since once one sits at the table all that is gone. I mean there's still the friendship, but you don't under play or overplay just because your friends. Still think Vanessa is the better player of the two and always liked watching her play on High Stakes.
