Sam Trickett received the Player of the Year award at European Poker Awards in Paris, France the other day. Trickett started 2011 by winning and coming second in two Aussie Millions high roller events. Then it didn't take long before he to won the prestigious Partocuhe Poker Tour main event. In other words, a fantastic year for him!

The Russian poker pro Andrew Pateychuck became 2011's rookie thanks to winning both an EPT and a WPT title in just 1,5 month. And not to forget his 5th place finish in the WSOP main event.

Even though Viktor "Isildur1" Blom ended 2011 in the best possible way and became one of the biggest winners online, it wasn't he who took home the Online Player of The Year title. Instead Ilari Sahamies, who went from big loser to big winner, took home the title. In total, Sahamies won about $2 million last year.

Everyone who received an award:

Player of the Year: Sam Trickett
Best Tournament Performance: Pius Heinz
Rookie of the Year: Andrey Pateychuk
Europe's Leading Lady: Nataly Nikitina
Staff of the Year: Warren Lush (bwin.Party)
Internet Player of the Year: Ilari Sahamies
Poker Personality of the Year: Bertrand Grospellier
Event of the Year: WSOPE Cannes
Lifetime Achievement: Jesse May

wow never knew such awards existed- it sounds like Oscars Thumbs up and the winner is... Tease
probably a nice idea- such events imho are great for press, publicity, and for the fans as well- they get an opportunity to say their opinion about the outcome and the event itself- i like the idea Beer

I think Ilari truly deserved that title, he was around 600k down on pokerstars at the beginning of last year and he ended the year with a huge profit.
Still, Isi should also get a title Smile

The possibility of having Trickett winning this prize was something that many were already previewing some months ago. What surprised me was to see Ilari Sahamies winning the Internet Player of the Year award. This award only takes in consideration the amount of winnings, not the number of games, or the hand ratio, which would definitely be the best measurement instrument to use in order to see who was really the best. When a new billionaire donk comes around this guys and manages to rob them a small fortune, passing them in the winning rank, I still want to see if European Poker Awards will maintain the way they calculate who’s the winner.
