Online Poker legislation in the U.S. already this year? |

 According to an interview with the chairman of Nevada Gaming Control Board, we might see a legislation of online poker in USA already this year. The chairman, Mark Lipparelli, says that a new gaming license system might get the first official applications within a few months time. This would mean that gambling sites could be running legally in some states already this year. The first state to get a license, however, will most likely be Nevada.
In the interview, Lipparelli also talked in detail how the procedure for applying gambling sites would work. Besides the application itself, this procedure includes other things such as a real technical evaluation of the applicant's products to make sure that only serious, well-functioning sites get the license.

this legislation will allow only for intrastate poker, i.e. people of nevada can play against each other

| These are very good news for all US citizens who like to play online, but I think this can mean a future problem for me and all of us in Europe and the rest of the world. We all know USA still rules the world and, if they are giving this huge step of creating legislation for online poker, this means that sooner or later all the other countries will follow this way. I think the sooner the better, but things tend to be done in a very slow way, at least in Portugal. When someone remembers of discussing a subject like this, either it will be put aside because it doesn’t have big representation, or it will take years till something is done. Unless EU does something general for all states, I can’t imagine Portuguese government creating something for self recreation.

What is going on in the world of online poker was inevitable I guess, but still sucks bad. I have always enjoyed being able to play against people from all corners of the globe. I have especially enjoyed being told off in various languages after stacking someone with a donk hand. Soon to be sweet memories....

If this ever happens to Australia, online poker here will die; Australia simply don't have the population to sustain it in any meaningful way.
In America - if they could find a way to license it across ALL their states, they would still have some pretty heavy traffic - but if they can't do it properly and end up with this model, which it looks like is what is going to happen - then their traffic (per state) is going to be fairly poor as well.
Dark days really and the future isn't bright.

Soon as the U.S. starts issuing a licence allopwing poker sites to operate in the U.S. there's going to be some sites that are out there right now taking a turn in users. And watch, all other countries with any population will implement the same practices. It may not be this year, but if or when authorization to license happens Americans will be back on these sites ready to play. I live here and we're starving for sites that allow us to play on them. Moneybookers, E-wallet and other withdraw facilities will welcome U.S. citizens again. Hurry it up!

It's good for you definitely - it's a welcome step for anyone in the current USA situation.. But for the ROW - it's not a step forward, not really.. Just more segregation

I don't really understand what they're going to do. Is the governement going to make their own poker site for every state? Or are they going to use the already existing poker programs?
Do you guys really think other countries will follow? I hope not... Poker is gambling but it's definetly the most "controllable" form of gambling IMO. Keeps your brain healthy also, unlike slot machines

on the contrary only option available for you will be bank transfers like in other regulated areas as its easier to control and make people pay their taxes.
like others i hope this doesnt happen in other countries, regulation is far more trouble than its good
btw situation is pretty different in various US states, some like Utah hav decided to "opt out" even if online poker is made legal throughout US

Legal just for local. any affect to us ? and image poker site to other government ? Win pay tax ?
if lose ? pay back the tax ? lol just hope poker community fight to make it international like before black friday, just change money policy

Good news for US citiziens, better this legislation than no one. But sad for the same reasons of other countries legislations, segregation. I want the poker world we had years ago... I want to stay in a table with a USA player, and italian, some french, a chinese, etc...

Where have you read about this SuperNoob? I believe US govt can also creat partnerships with online wallet companies. Some are pretty secure and have a lot of legislation to insure users and the company itself of the correct use of it. Look at PayPal, for instance, which is the only one that UK govt approves. I think this can also change in USA.
