Tony G won't play the $1 million buy-in tournament

Poker pro and loudmouth Antanas Guoga, better known as Tony G, won't be taking part in Big One for One Drop at the 2012 World Series of Poker - even though he was one of the 42 pre-registered players for the tournament. The reason seems to be that he will travel around with Lithuania's basketball team, together with other big sponsors of the team, at the same time as the tournament is played in Las Vegas.

This means that 41 players will take part in Big One for One Drop. The tournament kicks off in a week and still there are 7 seats (48 player cap) available to anyone who has the money and the guts to use $1,000,000 for a single poker tournament!

It is possible to still have these 7 chairs ocupied before the game starts. Maybe some non-lucrative institution, or any charity Foundation can pay the entrance to one of its members or even a well known player to go there, not thinking about the Money he can win but on the help/contribution they will be giving. Besides, these institutions could think about making a contract with the chosen player to divide the prize he would get in case he won anything, and give the institution part also to charity. Now that would be a great campaing.

Who cares the guy isn't in it, he's a tosser. As for following the national team around as a sponsor wtf? It's a national team, seems like a very wierd scenario.

after winning the whole thing,pokerhistory is made and a pro-contract by one of the big pokerrooms would become a fact..

I frankly do not think that the reason he said is serious....

I mean this is one of a time life opportunity but if you ask me i think he didn't find anyone to stake him for his entrance.

That and he bottled it - tbh i don't think he has the balls to do it and pulled out citing some 'charitable-esque' stuff to do with a basketball team.

Tony G is a bigger asshole that hellmuth. Got no respect for the guy at all, after watching how he talks to women at the table. He seems to think he's a lot better than he really is at poker. Sure he's made a shitpile more money that we'll all ever see, but there are a lot of players better than him.

Seems like a pretty sad excuse not to join a tourney. Maybe he can't afford the buy-in.

wow this is such a great way to get free attention to your persona- just pre register for "the drop"- then before it starts come up with an excuse and say sorry dudes i cannot play- you know my wife is going to bahamas at the same time and there wiil be no one to walk the dog...so i cannot play

Noonlion, I bet you already heard about Rotary. This is a charity Foundation with particular ways of doing activities in order to help the needed, and they could arrange someone for going into this event only with the objective of getting the best results so that the funds to help others, or even this cause in the same, were the biggest possible. I think that was possible and liable.

I love watching Tony G play, the bloke loves to chat and negotiate winning large pots! I recently say him fire up in a big cash tournament, maybe it was because of the fact he was 20k down! Haha

i was quite surprised to hear that the famous Tony G wasnt going to play in the Big one drop. you would have thought that he can afford to play in this tournament. i know its a bit much.but the reward would have been great if he managed to get in the final table
