The first round of the 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship finished a few moments ago, with 32 players moving on to Round 2. One of the most interesting matches of Round 1 was the one between Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Andrew Lichtenberger, who Daniel Negreanu predicted would win the tournament.

Blom, who plays his first NBC HU Chamionship, dominated the match and Lichtenberger almost didn't get a chance to catch his breath. In the final hand, Blom (JHeart10Heart) and Lichtenberger (9Heart9Club) were all-in preflop, and the board ran out KSpade8DiamondJClub4Diamond2Heart to give Blom a pair of jacks and the win. He will play against Mike "The Mouth" Matusow in the second round today.

Most people would agree that Matusow should be an easier opponent than Lichtenberger for Blom, but it doesn't necessary mean that he can take the win for granted! He will most probably have to fight hard, because Matusow has been around the live tournament scene since the early 90s, when Blom was born, and he didn't get the nickname "The Mouth" for nothing. It will be interesting to see if some trash-talking can get Blom out of balance!

Below are all the players who advanced to Round 2 of The National Heads-Up Poker Championship:

blom vs the mouth that should be a real entertaining match one of the most talkative live players vs one of the least talkitive (atleast live) online players would be a good one to watch for sure. i think blom is gonna take the whole tournament down imo

Blom usually doesn’t react very well when the chat gets part of the game, but online he’s got the possibility of ignoring it by not reading. Playing live doesn’t give him that kind of tool, the only way would be advising the referee of the abuses of the opponent in case he starts feeling upset. Will he use that?

Yeah, would love to be able to watch this on-line or the tube. If anyone knows that this can be done please post a thread with the title being so it's not overlooked. Would like to watch the mouth go up against blom to see how this plays out!

Another comment is, I think it would be great to see the old man take it down. He's still it I see. Go Doyle Brunson! I mean who wouldn't enjoy that?

First question is: Where i can watch a live stream of this or where can i see the matches that were so far??

As for the results itself i think so far the results were pretty expected, we all knew that Blom is best on HU NLHE.

Taking note of the action and speaking to some of the game's finest throughout the day was Tobias 'Samagain' Block. One of the most interesting pieces of information to emerge from interviews was the Mike Matusow is "disappointed" that Full Tilt haven't resigned him as a sponsored pro.
The action at the felt continues when half the field will make it through to Saturday's final session.

I think he got another bracelet last year, WSOP Europe main event if my memory is right. Was maybe his biggest cash too, not sure though Blink He's a great heads up player, but I think Cates or Katchalov will win this!

He is a God given Heads up player.. Woudnt wanna draw him in a Heads up championship

Mike the Mouth freaking took it... Against his old pal Phil Hellmuth... Kinda weird that these to ended up in the final as they had predicted

This was Blom's first NBC HU Championship, but he's perfectly aware of all the specifications of the game, although he's more used to deal with it online. Now the problems should be increased, as everyone tends to get more confident while they pass a level, everyone already defeated a great player...

Sincerly ,i don-t like to much this guy,Isildur, that hand-'In the final hand, Blom (JHeart10Heart) and Lichtenberger (9Heart9Club) were all-in preflop, and the board ran out KSpade8DiamondJClub4Diamond2Heart to give Blom a pair of jacks and the win'-' he's playing not seams to me an all-in hand.Maybe that's why i am playing for penny and Isildur play for milions, lol!
 demodawggy16/05/2013 20:48:19 GMT
I kinda like that Katchalov guy. I've been watching him come along since he statded knocking heads with the big shots....

Good solid player without the big shot attitude...! Thumbs Up
