Ignition interlock devices or breath alcohol ignition interlock devices have been around for quite a few years now, but so far they have almost exclusively been used in vehicles and by police to make sure that drivers aren't under the influence of alcohol. However, in the next few weeks a breathalyzer test will be required by some product testers who want to play cash games on PokerStars.
According to an anonymous source at PokerStars, the site as been working together with Chinese researchers and hardware companies for almost 3 years to create a USB-interlock device that prevents players from drinking alcohol and playing poker.
"We have been working on this project for almost 3 years and now we finally have a prototype ready. As we speak, we are sending devices to 100 selected product testers around the globe. We hope to have the final product ready by September 2013, but it will take until the beginning of 2014 before the product has been shipped to all our customers. We are confident that our players will enjoy an alcohol free environment at the cash game tables," said the anonymous source.
