Welcome mobsters, if you are reading this blog for the very first time, I thank you for your initial interest. I think that if you give it a little time, you will find something that will peak your interest.

I am a semi-pro poker player and an author. I am currently working on several projects for publication, and will be discussing them on occasion in this blog. If you are a fan then I warn you, from time to time there will be spoiler book ideas discussed.

Section 1: Poker Tips & Concepts
Find you niche and master it.
Every poker player has a soft spot for one poker variant or another. Discover which type of poker you love and just stick with it. Mastering one variant of poker can take a lifetime and along the way can make you alot of money. I find to many players these days think the need to play every single type of poker.

What total BullShiitt!

It is much better to stick to one game and truly excel at it then it is to just become an alright player at 7 or 8 different variations. It has been said that you cannot please two masters. Well the idea of serving a half dozen or more of them is really crazy. You will be doing yourself a favor if you specialise in one area and devote most if not all your improvement efforts to the one poker variant.

Yes there are pro's who can play more than one poker game but they all have the primary bread and butter favourite type game which they truly excel at overall.
Until next time

Section 2: "Ronin's Bankroll Management Challenge"
Well this section is going to be familiar to the forum regulars as I have been running this section for awhile in the forums, It is about the single most important skill a poker player must have in their arsenal in order to be a successful winning player.

Bankroll Management has been estimated to be the single most neglected poker skill by almost 95% of all players. Countless books have been written on the subject, and yet most players most often just ignore the rules of proper bankroll management.

I too fall into this trap at times.

This section is intended to show how proper bankroll management can ensure that and good poker player who approaches his bankroll and poker play from a solid and disciplined position can succeed.
It also is intended to help me to remain focus and discipline in my own bankroll quest to succeed.
The new plan is a simple one.

The challenge will run for 8 weeks, Monday - Friday.
I am going to try to play 1000-2000 hands a day.

Going to try and maintain a minimum buy in level of 40 buy ins for whatever current base level I am playing on at any given time.

I will take a two table shot at moving up in stakes whenever I have my 40 buy in's + 4 buying for the next higher level. During the shot upward move I will only play two table maximum and will have the auto rebuy feature turned off. If I lose the 2 attempted buy in then I go back to playing the lower limit until I once again build back up to at least 40 + 4 buy in's again then repeat.

Once I have 40 full buy in's for the new upper level it will become my new base line level.

Yes I will also play so small Mtt's but the buy ins will be a 1-5 ratio. That means with a $100 bankroll I can play in a $1 buy in tournament with a $5 stop lose in place, so I will allow myself to lose no more than 5% of my total bankroll on any given day of play in Mtt's.

Hope this explains things well enough for you mate.

Best wishes.
Be cool
Ronin

Week 6 Update
The week started off well and I increased my bankroll on day one. Tried to get onto PartyPoker several times on day two but the site was down so no poker on day two. The rest of week six went ok and I am now back above $50 in my challenge bankroll.

The real problem is my complete lack of desire to even play any cards at all, I even turned down a chance to play live poker against people I always seem to win against. The idea of playing poker these last two weeks has been making me physically ill. I think I need to take a break as I feel totally burned out and even hate the idea of even seeing a deck of cards right now.
Until later.

Section 3: The daily rant
Well damn it. We got one little tropical storm with a wimpy sounding coming are way. The name is something like, "tropical storm Arrr thuuur".

What is next Bradlee followed by Crawfurd or maybe Biff and Clareance. Why do they not give these storms more fearsome sounding names? I mean really who the hell is afraid of tropical storm Arthur? Give a hurricane a break and call it Patton or Manson  something that tells people a real ShitStorm is coming their way. Giving a Tropical Storm or a Hurricane a pussy sounding name is just mean spirited. I think if I was a Hurricane Spirit, getting a whimpy sounding name would just tick me off and enrage me, It would motivate me to do even more damage to the insolent bastard's who disrespected me.

Ever notice that you are also the person to discover that the toilet roll needs to get replaced. I also seem to be the only one to ever discover the bathroom roll needs to be changed. Ok fine I live along but I do have health care workers who come into my apartment everyday to assist me with things and they use my bathroom every day. You would think once in awhile one of them would need to change a roll too.

What the hell is wrong with people and their ugly arse dogs. I mean no lady, just because you think your dog is great, it does not mean that the rest of us should be forced to look upon the ugly mutt. Also for the love of God, train the damn thing to shut its yappy mouth at 4:30 am or it is going to fracking disappear one night very soon.

I could go on but I guess I will call this rant to a close.

Well until next time, be cool.

I can barely get to grips with one form of poker, so the people who play many different disciplines, i take my hat off to them because they are a lot better players than me

G'day mate

I can play several forms of poker but I much prefer No Limit Texas Holdem.
I have been able to make money in each of the variants which I can play.
However, I know I make the most playing No Limit.
Wishing you all the best

Hi. About your challenge, the fact of taking poker as one of the main daily things someone does for a long time must tend to decrease the passion for the game itself, as it turns into a profession. That sensation may pass with time but you will never look at the game the same way you were used to. Keep patience up and focus on what you are doing every time you play. Or else. You really better think about vacation. Algarve is already enjoyable in Portugal Smile

G'day Fakiry

Thank you for your words mate.
I am wondering if you just gave me an invitation to come to Portugal?
I must warn you that I would expect you too give me a guided tour.
I want to see a cool pub, hot women, and beautiful natural view.
Wishing you all the best.

Ronin, if that is a invitation to Portugal you should definately take it, beautiful ocean side views and relatively low prices on everything Blink

As for daily poker, i have to agree that in time you start to lose the fun of the game and you are playing it just for it's financial part.

G'day mate

Well I must admit that I have been getting absolutely no enjoyment from playing poker at all.
I even sat down at a NL100 table at even the three times I was all in did not excite me.
I simply did not care if I won or lost.
I guess that can make a player fearless but it can also make you complacent and stupid.
well at least I did not lost all my bankroll today.
best wishes to you

Playing different types of poker at the same time is really challenging but is really rewarding in terms of brain management and the ability to assess and read the relative game at any given time so that you can improve your overall game. Give it a go.

Ronin, if you think about it it's good that you don't get affected when you play at higher stakes, this is always important in poker to somehow detach form the value of money.

Of course, the essential thing is to always have an eye on your bankroll, as long as you have bullets, you are a player Smile

G'day mate

Yes I guess that you are correct in one sense.
My problem is right know I seem to have lost all the joy I used to have when playing poker.
I think I will miss that deeply if it does not return.
best wishes to you mate.
