Portuguese Filipe Oliveira emerged as the top winner of partypoker's 2018 Caribbean Poker Party $10M guaranteed $5,300 buy-in NLHE event.

The event attracted a player field of 1,815 entries which means that the organizer needed to add about $925,000 as an overlay, despite the last-minute surge of entrants (they needed at least 2,000 entries to reach the guarantee; rake not counted).

Oliveira happily took home a huge $1.5 million payout as the champ of this event, tremendously surpassing his previous career highest live tourney score of just $100,000+.

He entered the final day of the event with a nice stack in 5th chip position along with 10 other players remaining. However, as the day went on at the final table he slowly spiraled down the leaderboard after he lost many big pots. Just when he only had 3.5 big blinds during six-handed play, he managed to eventually rise back up in the group and take the lead.

On the final hand, he was up against Craig Mason.

Oliveira had A-9 of hearts

Mason had K-9 offsuit

The board ran Q-9-2-J-4, thus declaring Oliveira as the top winner of the event and sending Mason to the rail as runner-up.

This rewarding event produced three happy millionaires!

Many congratulations to Filipe Oliviera on winning this tournament and the very nice first prize of $1,500,000. It must have been a tremendous feeling to wake up the next day and realise you had won over a million dollars the day before

wow, what a win for this player!to play at bahamas such a great tournament and to win 1,5 million $,what can you wish more!its big buy in,but its was worth of every penny!
but as I see party poker had big problems with number of players and they didnt collect enough players for prize pool!its big problem when you need to add almost 1 million dollars!

Unfortunately for Party Poker they lost some money with this tournament.
The organization of satellites is very important and if they are not done properly, then does not make a number of players.
For this reason they had a minus of 925 k.
Congratulations to these 3 players who have won a million or more and for rest who have earned a good amount of money.
Now they can spend a little money in Caribbean.

Yes i personally too think it is not good situation to party poker because organize very good event and have to add almost 1 million feom own money. For players it is very good situation and top 3 players become millionaire.

Wow overlay tourney in this day and age Smile
Besides the fact they completely botched the promotion on this so less people actually showed up in the end shelling out 5k on an entry in the Caribbean where your flight alone will cost you more than it should they would attract more players if this was in the middle of summer.

they will need to change something for sure for next year,if they dont to lose again lot of money with prize pool!this is very bad when you lose almost 1 million dollars!next year or they will change guaranteed prizes pool or they will have lower buy in!

The only solution for Party Poker is to make more satellites with an advance a few weeks ahead to start the main tournament.
Then they would have more suucces and they will be happy, because they will not lose money.
They were optimistic, but the reality is different.
Now they will take protective measures to have no deficit in the future.

Filipe Oliveira... His name sounds familiar to me, but I don't remember where I heard his name. I do recognize his face from somewhere. Anyway, congratulations to Filipe for topping a field of 1,815 entrants to win the $5,300 buy-in $10 million guaranteed tournament. Good job!
