Because of the viral pandemic that ravaged the entire world in 2020, many have been hit particularly hard, including the world of casino and poker.
However, the World Poker Tour was one of those who adapted quickly. It immediately moved some tournaments online with its longtime partner partypoker. So far, the WPT World Online Championships series on partypoker was the biggest one for the WPT online.
As the coronavirus remains at large, the return of a full-scale live poker anywhere will have to wait longer. Meanwhile, online poker activity has significantly increased.
WPT announced last month that Allied Esports Entertainment sold the WPT brand to investment firm Element Partners for $78 million.
WPT continues to move forward by forging new partnerships. The newest is with Poker King, an online poker site mainly aimed at the Asian market.

Inaugural WPT Spring Festival for Mobile Gamers
Poker King is the sponsor and host of the first-ever WPT Spring Festival, an online poker series created for Asian mobile players. The series runs from February 11 to 22 and features 13 tournaments with over ¥12 million ($1.85 million) in guaranteed prize pools.
As stated in the press release, the WPT Spring Festival will take advantage of its partner's new "innovations for mobile poker."
Poker King said that their site currently has 1.2 million people registered users and runs more than 50,000 table games per day.
Thirteen events on the WPT Spring Festival schedule sound a bit few, but each one offers a promising guarantee. The buy-ins range from ¥200 up to ¥10,000 for the High Roller, and the series will not only offer Hold'em games but also Pot Limit Omaha, Short Deck, and Progressive Knockouts.
The $1.5M guaranteed WPT Spring Festival Main Event is scheduled on February 17 to 22, with a buy-in of just $300. Notables joining in the main event include Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, NBA legend Allen Iverson, and Jean-Robert Bellande, Nick Petrangelo, Stephen Chidwick, Andy Milonakis, Daniel Dvoress, Brad Owen, Andrew Neeme, Celina Lin, Scotty Nguyen and WPT Talent Lynn Gilmartin, Tony Dunst and Matt Savage.
