Doyle Brunson, a legendary poker player, has died Sunday, May 14 in Las Vegas. He was 89.

At the time of writing, the cause of death remains unknown.

Todd, Doyle Brunson's son, who also plays poker professionally, has confirmed the news on May 15.
He posted on Twitter: "Yes I'm sorry. It's true."

His agent Brian Balsbaugh released a statement via Twitter from his family.
"It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our father, Doyle Brunson. He was a beloved Christian man, husband, father and grandfather. We'll have more to say over the coming days as we honor his legacy. Please keep Doyle and our family in your prayers. May he rest in peace."

Doyle Brunson

Called the "Godfather of Poker", Brunson earned the name mainly thanks to his massive influence on the game and he helped popularize poker all over the world. He was a two-time world champion with back-to-back wins at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in 1976 and 1977. He also won 10 WSOP tournament bracelets, which are the second highest of all time, just behind Phil Hellmuth's 16.

Brunson was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1988 and later on he became an ambassador of the game.

Born and raised in Texas, his signature look included a cowboy hat and he's also known by his other nickname "Texas Dolly". Throughout his poker career he made a total of $6,176,737, with his best live cash worth $1,198,260 which he won first place in the WPT 2004 Legends of Poker tournament.

He retired in 2018.

The World Poker Tour tweeted:
"The poker world mourns the loss of a legend. Doyle Brunson, a true icon of the game, passed away on Sunday at the age of 89. His impact on poker will be felt for generations to come. Rest in peace, Doyle."

Brunson, known as one of the world's most prominent poker players, also authored two books entitled "Super System" and "Super System 2", which are regarded as valuable and influential the game has ever seen, and it is still widely being used today by those wanting to learn game strategy.

Daniel Negreanu, one of the best poker players in the world, wrote on his Twitter page, "Legend. There will never be another Doyle Brunson."

Poker pro Phil Hellmuth said that the poker world lost its biggest legend in Brunson.
He tweeted, "Poker lost its biggest Legend today. He inspired 3 generations of poker players w his play, his award winning book "Super System," and his fabulous style and grit. Doyle always played hard: the man absolutely hated losing!! Doyle ruled the high stakes cash games in Las Vegas for 50 years!! Doyle was married to the love of his life, Louise, for 62 years. Goodbye-and rest in peace-to the most beloved poker player in history..."

After his agent Brian Balsbaugh announced Brunson's passing, he shared an anonymous quote which he describes the poker legend embraced.
The quote read: Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!"

Doyle Brunson is survived by his wife Louise, his son Todd and his daughter Pam.

When I saw the news I could not believe it, he was a great player, he left us many teachings to be able to become a great poker professional with hard work and a lot of discipline.

he was old, but in my opinion he still moved well and took care of his sick wife. Unfortunately, he died and his wife is suffering now, but this is fate and we all have to go through difficult moments in life.

We know the day we are born, but the day we die we do not know, the most important thing is to be a good person, to be an example for many more players, and that this chain continues for many years.

He is a poker legend, he is an old player and we have to respect that, sometimes because of the pride of many new world class players that do not recognize the talent of this player we all have to eat this, but that is not so, this player has been at a great level for many years, and gives us the lesson that everyone with discipline and hard work can be achieved.

I was sad to read the news, he was a great man! 89 years is a very long life, of which 62 years of marriage is a very beautiful thing in itself, plus 50 years in the world of poker. Many people will remember Legend for a long time, he taught many people, wrote books,... he brought a lot to the table in several ways. He was the man who left his mark on the world, may he rest in peace!!

That's right, an age where almost no one is free, the most important thing is that we live happily while we are in this world, this player enjoyed life, he enjoyed for a long time the sport he loved the most, poker, we will always remember him.

He will be everywhere he is mentioned, he will be present in every poker player, he is part of our community, he died a great and old poker player, he was one of the pioneers of this sport, he deserves our respect and admiration.

we will see everything in documentary that they will make and how they will threat him, but he deserver everything best!
 geseco1203/06/2023 04:47:32 GMT
He deserves a lot this player, he spent his whole life in this poker world, recently I saw him playing in a televised cash game, despite his advanced age he was always present in some poker tournaments.
 dule-vu03/06/2023 06:40:25 GMT
hm, I am not so sure that this was something new and thats something that he could want in this years! probably this was some older show when he was more active, we all know for late night poker and this kind of shows! I think that he wasnt on some tournaments for months, years and for tv who know! he will get more words on wsop that just started in las vegas!

It's sad that he's gone, but we all will, sooner or later. It's nice that he was such a good player and was able to show his great game for so long. For sure, he is an example for many, and maybe even a poker champion. Now, various competitions will probably be organized with his name and in his memory. He will always be remembered Smile

He had great ages, 89!
 geseco1206/06/2023 23:47:05 GMT
I was very old, at that age almost most people die, every year that passes life is shorter, we should know how to enjoy our life, and leave this world with a happiness of having done very well.
 CALICUL07/06/2023 00:17:06 GMT
his age when he died is an excellent one, because it is difficult to move, to do work around the house, etc... Many people do not reach at this number of years because of their living conditions. Doyle Brunson lived well. We must follow his example...

Doyle Brunson is one of the best known and most influential poker players in the world! He is the oONLY player to have played in all ten World Series of Poker main events, winning them twice!! Brunson's playing style is aggressive and risky, but also flexible and adaptable. He doesn't stick to any one strategy, but is constantly watching his opponents and exploiting their weaknesses. Doyle believes poker is not just about the cards, but also about psychology and mathematics. A personal note to end on: My personal favorite was him in the Pokerstars Big game! Smile
Rest in peace!! Sad
 CALICUL09/06/2023 12:49:04 GMT
you are right because he had an indisputable career in terms of the quality of his poker game. He had great talent, intuition and strategy. It even deserves a statue from my point of view.
