Winners's Reaction
"It's good. It feels good. It feels good to win always," Ivey said after he won as a huge crowd gathered around him to celebrate a new milestone in his incredible poker career.
Phil Ivey won his very first bracelet back in 2000 and guess what, he won against poker legend Amarillo Slim, the winner of the 1972 WSOP Main Event and a Poker Hall of Fame inductee in 1992.
Fast forward to today, Ivey is now competing against players who weren't even born when he first established himself as one of poker's premier player. His priorities have shifted: Ivey is now a family man, unable to spend countless hours playing the game as he once did.
Of course, the drive is still there, and so is the elite talent. He said, "I'm motivated. If I can play, I will. A lot of times I'm not in town. I keep showing up. Playing, performing. I want to keep winning."
Phil Ivey stats
With 11 WSOP bracelets now to his name, the 47-year-old California native is currently holds the second-most WSOP titles all-time, second only to Phil Hellmuth.
Known as the "Tiger Woods of Poker", he won three WSOP gold bracelets in 2002. In 2009, he won two.
Also, at age 38, he became the youngest player to ever win 10 bracelets. He broke Phil Hellmuth's record of 42 years old at the time of his 10th bracelet. It's also interesting to note that no other player has accumulated 10 bracelets quickly - it took Ivey only 14 years from the time of his first bracelet to his tenth (Phil Hellmuth took 17 years).
Ivey's total live cash earnings are now at the $45 million mark.
Ivey is now back atop the poker mountain. He conquered one of the strongest fields on the WSOP calendar, proving that even after all these years, he's still among the best.
