With the 2024 WSOP currently ongoing, the WSOP has announced on Tuesday, July 2, the top finalists eligible for the 2024 Poker Hall of Fame. Just one will be inducted.

The list of 10 poker players was created after a two-week process of public nomination and a vetting of these nominations by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council. The decision now falls in the hands of 32 living members who will allocate a ballot of 10 total points to determine who gets inducted.

The finalists are as follows:

  • Barny Boatman
  • Bill Smith
  • Isai Scheinberg
  • Josh Arieh
  • "Miami" John Cernuto
  • Kathy Liebert
  • Matt Savage
  • Mike Matusow
  • Patrik Antonius
  • Ted Forrest

The age requirement for being eligible for the Poker Hall of Fame is 40 years and above. Also, other criteria state that the player must have competed "against acknowledged top competition" and "for high stakes," while playing "consistently well" and "gaining the respect of peers." Additionally, the player must have "stood the test of time." For those in the industry but are not or were not professional poker players, they must have "contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results." As of now, there are 61 people who have met those requirements.

All living Poker Hall of Fame members are invited to freeroll into this year's WSOP Event No. 95: $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty No-Limit Hold'em tournament which starts on Sunday, July 14, with the buy-in priced in honor of the Hall of Fame's founding year. This event will be open to all players. Each participating Hall of Famer will have a bounty corresponding to the year they were inducted into poker's most exclusive club.

The 2024 Poker Hall of Fame inductee will be announced during the event, along with the unveiling of the inductee's Hall of Fame picture at the WSOP Hall of Fame Poker Room, which opened inside Horseshoe Las Vegas last year.

Unfortunately, I don't know any of these people, but I admit that I don't watch poke like I used to. I think that the requirements are quite serious, but I'm not surprised that they have to be really people who have contributed to Poker in some way, not random people or those who were more lucky than skilled at this game. I'm curious what their gameplay will look like, it could be interesting.

My vote would be for Barney Boatman,he's been around for a very long time and is still crushing the big games,I'm not 100% but I think he's one of the founders of the Hendon mob.

Patrik Antonius is better imo than Mike Matusow , and among otjers i would choose hom as the next one to become a member of the poker Hall of fame . But this is up to the living members of poker HoF to decide . Lets see what they will decide .

Somebody who deserve, hope so...

I just read the living names of the poker hall of fame . I have to admit some of them I do not know . And some of the dead/ departed ones as well . Also some great poker legends are still not in this honourable team of legends of poker , but on the other side the owners of horseshoe casino are there . And some friends of theirs . It makes you wonder .

It's owned by wsop company , a private company , which looks after it's interests . So you cannot expect them to be 100% objective and fair . Maybe the voting system should change . More poker players and pros and poker media guys should have a saying in the final vote , not only in the nomination phase .
 dule-vu11/07/2024 07:44:53 GMT
most of here dont know lot of this names, nothing strange!

Under 40 years old players can not be inducted to the hall of fame of poker players . I think 40 years is too much . Make it 30 . Why more I do not get it . I read that the reason they did this is because fans preferred to choose or vote the younger stars , even if they weren't the best , only because they were young stars .

Anyway now things have changed . Maybe they should change this rule . There are some guys around 30 or even you get that have dominated poker with gto strategies live or and online . Why they should wait 10 or more years to be voted for the hall of fame makes no sense to me
 dule-vu14/07/2024 18:56:50 GMT
You must do something and play for years! In every sport, especially in usa, hall of fame they choose many years after you finish playing, not when you still play! Its silly to tako young player in hall of fame when they still can play poker for 30 or 40 years!
 antonis32115/07/2024 15:38:04 GMT
If they have achieved many things why not . There are 20 and 39 years old guys there that take the game in another level at the tables . Justin Bonomo is one of the top . Why must he wait 2 or 3 years to be inducted , he is obviously a poker master , one of the top pros for years . There are more guys like him under 40 or even 30 . Anyway . That's what I think )))
 dule-vu15/07/2024 15:39:39 GMT
They have time till then! You must play for some number of years, not that you win everything in 2 years and then you are in hall of fame!
