Season 8 of PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour concluded last night after five intensive days of play in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Two Brazilian players, Yuri "theNERDguy" Martins and Afonse Henrique, played heads-up for the title.

In 2014, Argentinian poker pro Mario Javier Lopez topped a field of 609 players in the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Chile Main Event for $117,991, and on Tuesday he claimed his second LAPT title by outlasting a field 267 players in the Uruguay Main Event!

For the first time in PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour history, a field of of over 500 players signed up for the Main Event! On Wednesday, the LAPT Sao Paulo Main Event began and not less than 536 players paid the buy-in of R$4,600+R$400.

According to the tournament clock, 172 players survived Day 1 and the chip leader is Leandro Csome with 271,000 chip. In second place is Emerson Baroni with 206,000.

Exactly 5 years after Joran Van der Sloot was questioned for the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, he has now been linked to the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, whose body was found in Lima on Wednesday. Joran Van der Sloot was stopped and questioned by police in central Chile after traveling hundreds of miles south of the border.

However, no arrest warrant has been issued - though he's still one of the main suspects. So, what does all this have to do with poker? The Latin American Poker Tour was being held close to where Van der Sloot was stopped, and rumors say that he was in that area to take part in the tournament. We will probably hear more about this in the next few days.

Jose Ignacio Barbero from Argentina came to be the last man standing in PokerStars LAPT Punta del Este Main Event. For the win he received nothing less than $279,330. This is not the first time Barbero does well in a bigger tournament. He ended up in 89th place in the WSOP Main Event and has also won a side event in PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. However, the win of LAPT Punta del Este Main Event is his biggest achievement so far.

Dominik Nitsche from Germany wins the LAPT Grand Final tournament in Argentina after taking down the Main Event final table in less than four hours. For the win he received $381,030 and is for sure someone to watch out for in future tournaments.

Karl Hevroy had almost double the chips than any of the other players when the final table begun last Saturday. Karl Hevroy continued playing amazing poker on the final table and kept the lead until he was the last man standing. For the win he received USD$283,500 and wrote history as he became the first poker player to win a LAPT event with a prize pool greater than USD$1 million.
