There are a lot of good reasons to speak out against religion.. However, I will come back to this thread, as it is a particular passion of mine and I am well educated on the issue and I will happily take on any challengers.. But I think once I start typing, it is going to be an essay.. And I've already had a few scotches today (*nod* to Hitchens).. So I'll leave it for a rainy one.

Hitchens! I should've known, lol. The friend I recently referred is a big Hitchens fan so we discuss this topic a fair amount (endlessly almost). There's actually a chance he may drop in on this thread.
He actually told me about Hitchens passing tonight and showed me one of his articles on "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and it sounded like he went through a pretty awful ordeal. I haven't read any of his actual work but one of the YouTube videos I saw of him left a sour taste in my mouth so to speak (not a fair representation of him I know).
Don't consider me a challenger, I'm genuinely curious.

i disagree..there has always been religion ever since mankind inhabited this earth!maybe not the same religion as christianity but there has always been belief in a god wether it be a cow, the sun, made up gods, mythological gods. whatever it might be.there has always been belief in something! some religions believe their god is a cow--so no avatars of cows? some religions believed the sun was a god---so no avatars of the sun? some believe in mythical creatures----no pics...etc a pic is a pic.and anyways did jesus not gamble with his life when preaching?when he preached he could have been killed yet he done it anyway.

That is about right actually lol.. He wasn't really a pleasant man.. I didn't really like him much as a person and disagreed with a lot of his [other] views.. but his work on the atheist front is probably only surpassed by Dawkins himself.

Maybe I should just skip the Hitchens and go straight to the Dawkins then if I'm looking to read. Personally I try not to invest to much time into the subject because it's impossible to know definitively and so ultimately we all have to make an irrational choice on the subject anyhow.
