Somehow reading this thread for the very first time.
I'm already sick of this damn football world cup s**t. I get that a lot of people are excited but it's all some people talk about. And yet my sister in all seriousness actually asked me if there was some sort of football on next week. What rock is she living under and where can I get one? Even watching comedy central I can't get away from it, every ad makes some reference to England or the fact that every man will neglect his wife for a few months to obsess over something that really isn't that important. Rant over.
I think the majority of mobsters will not relate to this problem. I think BRM is set to go nuts over this cup.
However, I am always happy to be a part of such a great community. I wish you the best of luck at the poker table, the pool table, the dining table, the breakfast table, the leaderboard table and at all tables in general. Yours truly awood88, somewhere deep in the 19th century, boyo.

Why do people have to moan about a months worth of football, football, football on TV (and everywhere else you may care to look)?
Come on, it's an event that takes place only once every four years. It unites the whole world, regardless of which country you come from and whether your country has qualified or not. It emotes joy , sadness, expectation, pride and other similar superior feelings.
I don't hear people moaning about the Olympics, para Olympics, tennis etc that get wall to wall coverage also.(ok, maybe the para Olympics doesn't, but it should) Indeed, take Wimbledon. That gets two weeks wall to wall coverage in the media every year...... That's twice as much coverage (pro rata) as the world cup gets. (Please don't try and argue the 'whole football' thing, cos I'll be right back at ou with the. 'whole tennis' thing!!)
So, get your Pimms, walk down to the riverside and take a punt! Alternatively, don't think of it as football, but think of it as a way to show some pride in your countries achievements, however mediocre and enjoy the festival of colour and spirit (and violence, cheating and diving based on the first game) and enjoy yourselves instead of being miserable old sods who just want to moan about something. If your country is not participating, just enjoy what you could have been feeling had your boys bothered to put in the effort to qualify, and have a beer anyway!
It's summertime , the sun is shining, if you don't like football........... Get your Pimms , walk down to the riverside, etc, etc, etc. And just enjoy it!
In fact to help you enjoy it, go and buy yourself a Brazilian football shirt; it will make you feel like a million dollars and also may improve how you really look.
It doesn't last for long. It will be 14 July before you now it.............. and the Champions League and Europa League qualifiers will be starting!
