This is my latest post in the thead:
It's been a long time since I wrote in here. I think I owe it to anyone who was following to describe the eventual downfall:
Basically, September '11 was a fantastic month for me - made a lot of profit, withdrew quite a bit and bought my fiance her engagement ring with some of the profits.
October was a disaster:
A potent combination of
* Playing well outside of my limit ($5/$10 NL HU for example). And general poor bankroll management * Playing under the influence of illicit substances and sometimes after extreme sleep deprivation * Some genuine run-bad (I was considerably under EV) * Playing late at night, drunk - after being out all night at the pub, etc.
Basically, I managed to wipe around $8,000 off my bankroll in around 2 weeks..In the end I withdrew my final $1,000 and left $50 on there for a bit of a play.
I spent this final $50 just being a spazz - I actually ran into BeMyAtmPls whilst doing this!
In the end - I made a profit - I withdrew quite a few thousand over Sept-October and ultimately I've withdrawn more money than I've lost. However - besides the last $1k I took out as a stop-loss, after my last deliberate withdrawal I managed to steadily drop from just under $10K down to nearly bust.
As a result of this dramatic loss - and the fact that real world financial obligations prohibited me from putting a significant amount back on - I took a break. Over Nov and December I basically did not play poker - with a couple small exceptions.
I'm not jaded or anything and this isn't the first time I've built a poker balance into the thousands and then bust. I come from a pretty hectic gambling background so I can handle the loss (mentally). And I take consolation in the fact that during my healthy bankroll period I managed to withdraw quite a bit of money and had a lot of fun along the way.
I did have to take the break though, otherwise it would be hard to build back up and keep any interest in the game. I also had been neglecting my university work - and I'm now a final year student and need to put a bit more focus there.
I've started playing again - as PKR have given me a $75 birthday present (cash in my account) + some free tournament tickets.
If I manage to find some discipline and build up my roll again playing MTTs, I may continue this blog. Time will tell.
-----------ORIGINAL FIRST POST------ Manged to pick up 2nd place in PKR Open last night / this morning.. Started 4am aussie time, I had been up all night drinking and playing poker lol, ran until nearly 11am my time..
Pretty bummed-out out I didn't win, the heads up lasted around 45min and I was crushing it for the most part and then took a bad bead then made one bad call and that was it.. Was pretty frustrating because I had a massive edge on opponent, the only reason they made it to HU is because they kept sucking out on others like spiking a 5 with A5 vs AK etc.
Anyway, still pretty happy with result.
Was a $20 BI and 376 runners, netted a little over $1.1K for my efforts.
I spent about $150 on buyins over the night/morning I also made two other final tables but unfortunately had some rough luck early on with those:
Wellbets Home Game ($36 BI) 6/130 for $252 H.M.S Deep Stack ($20 BI) 9/95 for $65
So all up cashed a little over $1400 and spend roughly $150 in BI - so made about $1250.00 profit for the night.. Pretty happy, just really wish I had binked the Open.. Might try again tomorrow
edit: I've also attached current PKR MTT sharkscope graph from today.. (I've excluded SNG - as I tend to play $20-$100 HU SNGs when I am tilting so my SNG graph is a shocker, for those interested I am about $1K in the red on SNGs as a result).

lol yeah, I've been to bed, managed to sleep around 3hrs haha.. have stuff to do unfortunately. Early night tonight, might try and wake up at 4am though and have another crack at the Open

I really don't get why PKR doesn't have the "make a deal" option for final tables. When I found that out I was absolutely shocked and appalled.
As seen in my pic (lol) 1st place is $1840. So fairly significant, certainly was worth battling 45min for and really spewing I lost in the end, partly due to bad luck and partly I got really tired and made a stupid call that was just slack (just no reason to take the spot I did, calling what I thought was a huge bluff, which ended up being a huge value bet lol). I had a massive edge on him playing small ball and I should have stuck to that.
Regarding "make a deal", it is something that may be done further down the track, PKR is notoriously slow with implementing new features, it took them literally years to bring auto-reload to the cash tables. But it is (making a deal) something they have said may be implemented in future versions..
Personally, I would rarely use this feature, if you check my MTT results on PKR (open to public) I have a very high conversion rate in MTTs for getting to 1st place from HU.. I think my ratio of wins to 2nds is like 5:1 in favour of wins, something like that. However, I would have taken a deal today since I had quite literally been playing poker and drinking heavily for 14hrs straight, no kidding. I was totally effing zonked.

would of been nice to take it down but sometimes you can just get a bit unlucky at that stage and 2nd is still bloody good. If you had to the chance to say yes i will take 2nd at the begining of the tourney sure you would say hell yea that will do me lol

This is very true and I generally do tell myself this when I runner-up a tourney.. Especially when you're still on level-1 blinds and you check out the payouts for top-3 and think "nice, any of those would be nice". And yeah, even hitting the FT with 10 still to go, unless it you got like a 10:1 CL or something you would generally forfeit the match if you were given the 2nd place prize money..
It just hurts after a 45min HU battle that I was sure I was going to win.

Looks like yesterdays victories were like fresh air to balance the negative part of your SnG's. Very good. btw, how can you stay focused on the monitor for so many hours being drunk ? One thing is to play frunk on real tables (every time i do it, i always end up drunk, and sometimes "richer" , but online? I never tried it, because it must be heavy work, unless you do like dozn01, and have a window with some chicks to relax the eyes and helping you focus! GL for tomorrow, if you go there!

Yeah, it is hard work. Like, it wasn't exactly "fun" for the last 8 or so hours lol. Particularly the open, which lasted 6.5hrs, that was seriously doing my head in, by that time I wasn't even so much drunk (like coming on 8-9am) as much hung-over and tired, once I was down to my last table (the Open) I switched over to my laptop and lay down on the couch, it was actually quite hard not to fall asleep between hands, I actually took a little nap (set my alarm lol) during the 5min breaks.
Nice one jess! I hope you won't spend everything on beer lol I'm having troubles with playing some many hours with only short breaks, but I'm trying to play some MTTs and adjust My sessions usually are like 60-90 minutes, only sometimes longer, so when you play it's hard to think about playing 5+ hours to ship some bigger MTT
