Congrats on the success Jess! Keep it up and keep reporting your progress here. BTW, I wouldn't tell too many people where you got the funds to buy your fiance's ring, most people have no appreciation for the effort, focus and smarts required to make it in this game. Better to just say that you were working extra hours to afford it! Blink Big Smile

Keep going man Worship Worship Worship Worship

Small update:

October hasn't been a great month.. I withdrew around $800 at the beginning of the month, leaving $7.2k on site. Then I had a real nice heater and ran it up to $8.2k on nl $1/$2. Was feeling pretty good about this.

Then something happened, doom switch I guess. Been running like a dog. Ran down to around $5.2k by Oct 7th, ran it back up to $6.8k yesterday day time. Then had a horrible night session and had a closing balance of around $6k which is where it is sitting now.

As my bankroll strategy is fairly aggressive, the swings are stressing me out a bit. I actually spent around an hour last night going through my HH to see if I am playing bad.. For the most part, it's just bad beats, not even many coolers in fact, mostly just bad beats.

And example from yesterday:

I am dealt 55 on the button, I've got around $325, UTG ($300) raises to $8 and it folds to me and I call. big blind also calls.

flop comes:

Q56 rainbow - perfect.

big blind checks and UTG open-shoves for $300 !!! WTF

I tank for a bit, i don't have much history on this player - but that is a tell in itself, as I know all the 1/2 regs on PKR. So I make the call and they flip JQo with no possibilities for flush.

turn 6, river Q. FML. That was a ~$620 pot.

This sort of thing has mostly been the cause of the swing.. However - I need to admit I still have some tilt problems. And I've noticed on most of my bad sessions the last buyin or two that I lose is due to overly loose/bad play.

So I am definitely running bad for October, but I need to get better at handling a bad session. Currently I still either start playing horrible at the tables I am on, or even worse I move up limits and start playing horrible on nl400/600/1k - If I lose even 1 BI at nl1K for example - that's like losing 5 of my normal buyins and hurts pretty bad.

I also need to come up with some kind of bankroll strategy.. I need a point that I drop back to nl100.

I am thinking $4k is probably a reasonable safety net.. At the moment I have only 30BI for nl200, which isn't great, but it is OK. I've never been one for real tight BRM. What do you guys think of that ? (dropping to nl100 at the $4k mark).

I also need to include more MTT in my schedule I think - They've generally been a pretty good earner for me, it's just difficult to play all the prime time games. However - We (Aus) have just shifted into "daylight savings" which means now all the games are an hour later for me, so instead of 4am for example, it's 5am.. And that is a pretty big difference IMO when it comes to waking up early.

Any, keep ya'll posted.. Probably not going to play to much this week as have f-loads of Uni work piling up. (Massive C++ assignment I haven't started).

Anyway - I am praying to the poker gods that my run-bad will end soon.. Because I fucking hate nl100 on PKR - it is FULL of nits/grinders.

ul on the run but about the 4k for dropping down sounds pretty safe to me unless you hit some bad tilt and run like s**t, but sounds ok in my book but then again thats my book Big Smile GL anyway man Thumbs Up

just thought about it yea man dropping to $1 with 4k is pretty much well safe Cool

Well if its just bad beats, then keep playing your game! Blink You know I totally agree with you about the MTTs, you can make good cash in them without much risks. And IMO they are also more fun when you get to the final table

btw I finished 3rd in 2000 euro freeroll on mansion poker 3 days ago, I won 180 euros (almost 270$ canadian), pretty good for a freeroll! Thumbs Up Last hand, big stack (236k) button raised 2x to 12k, I was short stacked 3 handed so I shoved 85k (3k/6k 500 ante I think) with A5 and he called with KQ. But he was playing every hand so I figured I had the best hand and I had a good table image so I thought he might lay down some hands. He hit a flush though Angry He busted the whole final table, he won like 5 races in a row damn luckbox! Big Smile Smile

well.. mostly.. It's definitely bad beats that start it, but still some somewhat serious tilt issues to deal wit; particularly moving up limits and tilting - not good.

Yeh - I agree; a good FT place after an epic 3-10hr battle is a LOT more satisfying than a winning cash session. It's also hard to figure out when to stop with cash games, whereas after a 9hr MTT when you finally cash you definitely know when it is over.

Yeah that's awesome for a freeroll win . Grats, how many runners was that ?

Poker is a crazy world and you never know who is the next highroller, noobs can be high rolled by luck, good players can be low rolled by bad luck, poker isnt allways fair.
My point is, please Jess stick it to the BRM, imo (i hope i am wrong) your not that far from a bad (tilt) session and boom its over (again), at that point its over and maybe total over and you never start again.
I am not a good example for BRM cos i am a total nit BRM (playing $10 stakes with 50K WTF Confused), good thing is i absolutely cant go foking broke, bad thing is with this total nittyness i never ever gonna make it thats 100% for sure.

With the Jess example i wud say yes absolute minimum 40 buyins, so NL100 with 4K, totally forget the NL200+ you got nothing to do there (pure BRM not judging your skills).

Poker is a crazy world Jess, maybe your the next big man but we never will know if tommorrow TheJess is broke and cant try Disagree

Look at PKR, Bazultra (great player) BROKE, James 'green haired gayman'''close to BROKE, i can go on, many good PKR players are broke or close to busto, not cos of beats/coolers/drama, only broke cos of 1 boring nitty thing: 1 tiltsession and no BRM and BOOM -----> BROKE.

Am sry if my reply is a bit harsh, i am not judging your skills, in fact i think the skills are there and with better tilt controll and far far far better BRM controll maybe we have a dream come true here but you have to be patient and for the first time in your life have to take poker serious.

GoodLuck Jess, hope to read very good storys in the future Thumbs Up

There was a little less than 400 players Jess! Smile (40 paid)

Have to agree with Doomdy in this case Thumbs Up!

btw - Bazultra is not broke anymore - he got 3rd in the last Masters, so hes got some cash to throw at tables again lol. About James - Agree, hes playing 200nl instead of 1k like he used to Big Smile.

Off Topic btw Frank - do you have an active blog where I could read about your achievements in cash tables. I know youve got some on SS, but thats an old blog I assume. Hows your road to semi pro goes Smile?

bankroll management / etc :

Doomdy: You're absolutely right.

Last night was another disaster session - and whilst I still have above my previously defined cut-off point for nl100 - I think I might drop to this level anyway - play it safe.

Last night was a pretty spewy session - drunk & tilted.. Played pretty bad and dropped about $1,000.

But regardless of whether I lose because I am tilting or because of negative variance - it's all the same in the end.

I have a major Uni assignment due this weekend, so pretty much not going to be able to play (much lol) over the next few days - which will be good anyway - been playing a lot lately and probably need a break.

But I think starting next week when I have some more time I might plan out a better bankroll strategy - set rules / limits etc for each SNG, RING, MTT (and subdivisions like HU, 6m, FR etc).

Regarding James - yes, I see him often at my nl200 tables, he's obviously had a giant down-swing. Although I suspect he is still a way off busto.

The freeroll is still in the pipes - currently I've emailed PKR with the specific details of what I want:

$125 prize pool
Oct 29th Sat @ 7pm GMT
password protected

I've received an email saying my request has been forwarded to whatever team does this.. So as soon as it appears in the lobby I will create a new thread with explicit details included. And I will start giving out the password so people can pre-register.

Once I've had a good think about it I will update THIS thread with the details of my bankroll strategy etc - which should also allow for a clearer way to provide feedback in regards to how I am going.

So far October has been a disaster.. Although, to put it it context: I ended up $8k in profit for Sept (+ $600 RB) and I am currently down around $2.6K for Oct. So while it has certainly been a bad month, I've made a few decent withdrawals over the last few weeks, have a moderately healthy roll (especially once I drop limits) and are still basically fairly happy with where things are at for the moment.

Your graphic shows great rallies, you are in “grow up very fast” mode now, be careful, the higher they climb, the higher they fall. And the drinking scene. We all know what we should or shouldnt do when we want to play, but we always do stuff we shouldnt do in the same… why is that? First, it help us relax, its just na online game, whatever, who cares if i win or loose, its just for fun. But then, after starting and concentrating, when we want to have the besto f us available to apply in the game, we start feeling the alcohol and it just ruins everything... Anyway, keep up with the good work, with alcohol or without it, your graph is great!!!

BACK TO POKER

Finally I've posted a couple good sessions for Oct. In particular last night - I ended up $1.4K in profit - over a period of about 2hrs which included 5 nl200 6max tables plus 1 nl200 HU table. I ended up 4 BI on the HU table which was fucking excellent. The reason I was playing that is I had them tagged as a reg-fish and it was easy sailing - although I was hitting a lot of nice hands too (before the chips went in, not dishing out bad beats).

Had another good session a couple days before as well. All in all I am only down $800 for October now. I'm feeling a LOT less stressed about it now and I've looked over some HH and my down-swing included some brutal beats for big pots, so I am fairly happy with everything and hopefully upwards trend continues.

Anyway - really was just a small update to say I'm starting to recover for October and hope to be able to post a profit for the month soon, at least by the 31st !

Regarding dropping limits - I haven't yet as I fucking hate PKR nl100 - it is full of nits and it fucks my game up. BUT - if I ever drop to 40BI for nl100 - I will start playing Sad - I came dangerously close.. But well above for now..

Thanks Doomdy; I've actually been following that one for quite a while, it really is completely fucking brilliant. I read it whilst it's quiet at work.. time just flies by!

I actually stayed 10min after my shift finished once, just to finished reading the updates !

------------
sicko - was just having a quick session of nl200 and a high stakes reg sat down and started open shoving every hand, I actually lost 2 BI first, but then my luck picked up.. After he left another reg (and PKR Pro) - Beyne - sat down and started doing the same, scored a few choice hands and a bit of luck.

End game - sitting there with over 7.5BI /cheer /dance

Needless to say - October is looking up again !

------------
Oh - I'l just add to that. When I sat down it was a full table (6max) and some fish that was sitting there with about $62.14 or some s**t (like 30bb) started saying "FFS" every hand when he realised the guy was going allin every hand..

Then he cracked the s**ts and left the table !

What a fucking dumb s**t.

Guy comes and GIVES away $$$ and he cracks it and leaves.

Anyway, there was only one other $1/$2 game running and no one from that table came to take the free seat.. Eventually word got around what was going on and a big waiting list built, personally I couldn't believe how long it took for a waiting list to form and more so I just can't fathom why that stupid fish cracked the s**ts and left when it dawned on him a guy is open-shoving EVERY SINGLE HAND.

haha.
