Both Day 1A and Day 1B of the UK and Ireland Poker Tour London (UKIPT London) are in the books now. 194 players signed up for the first day and 414 for the second flight and now there are 132 players left with Luke Bird out in front. Bird, who works in the travel industry, qualified for £22 on PokerStars and is now playing the biggest tournament of his career.

He hit a hit a straight flush half way into Day 1B, doubled up and continued playing well throughout the day. He will bring 196,800 to the poker tables this afternoon when the tournament resumes. Tom Hall, a familar face on the tournament circuit, is lurking behind Bird with 181,600 chips.

Front time to time there’s always a first timer that surprises everyone around. This doesn’t mean he has no experience at the game, he probably plays a lot online, but never had the chance to win a ticket to go for a big live tourney like this. This is very good advertising and even better for him, which is living the dream.

London's Victoria Casino was packed to the rafters as 414 UKIPT players jostled for position both at the table and on the poker room floor.
Final starting session is expected to welcome even more players and take the final number of entrants beyond 1,000.
