Doug "WCG|Rider" Polk has recently uploaded to his Youtube channel a remarkable video in which he reviews the top 5 largest pots that high-stakes poker pro Isildur1 ever played, and describes each one in detail.

Viktor Blom, best known in the online poker world as "Isildur1", was born in September 26, 1990 (now age 26), is a Swedish high-stakes online poker player who became famous in late 2009, when he participated in all ten of the largest pots in online poker history.

Polk used HighstakesDB's own replayer to take a look back through the hands, and one of these hands show the biggest pot in the history of online poker.

The size of the pot was $1,356,947, a massive record that, if ever, no one's expecting it to be broken anytime soon. Watch Doug's video and hear him as he breaks down each player's decision and shares his thoughts on what the best play would've been.

What a fantastic video and it was really interesting to hear the thoughts of a top player on each of these hands. When you hear them talk, you realise just how good these players are

All i know by watching a couple of hands in the plo is, that i would have never, played or called
with what he got.
He was in chasing and just got lucky.
Bottom line this a way to become a professional poker player, that cashes often.
Being that lucky Smile

That's why Isildur is so hard to play against he's fearless or crazy Smile
either way it works,i think he is also a better player than a lot of people think but that plo is just crazy
i can't get my head around some of his plays. Shock

Ironically the biggest pot was a lost one for him right from the get-go, his starting/3bet/4bet ranges were very interesting on almost all of the pots, but many playouts here were just showing that agressiveness is not everything in this game.

A pot tends to bloat in pot limit Omaha compared to that of no limit Holde'm. Full Tilt Poker used to have super-high-stake tables. The nosebleed stakes are no longer available there. Some of the high-stake online players are probably now wagering tens of millions of dollars in brick and mortar poker rooms.

in my not so humble opinion what he is/was playing is really nothing too outrageous or breathtaking and can easily be compared to any drunk idiot play except the fact that all these pots have more zeros in the end, nothing else that would be interesting. same play can be spotted at any micro table with the fact that it's only a few dollar pots that leads to "a bit less" excitement and publicity.

interesting video course but people wrote here a big role in this game was luck .. I certainly understand that in a game like poker luck plays a very important role and all workshops in learning the game of poker is not entirely correct when applied to the tips of my game

are you serious? so far i have only watch the first hand. this guy is commenting it as "isildur feeling ambitious to call that high raise" (and its not even NL holdem but OMAHA) in fact its donkplay at its best Aww crap!
you have to be aggressive, but if there is pushback and you still call your simply stupid.
i guess its called being "politicaly correct" now a days. no one has the balls to say "dude, that was lucky donkplay"..
curious to the see the other hands.

Yea the way it plays though reminds me another player, who had quite a success at some point
in his career teddy. Gus Hansen Smile
Not hard to start missing such pots, with the chase he does.
Then he will join gus Blink
 T3ddyKGB18/11/2016 20:42:26 GMT
i was thinking exactly the same, once he run out of luck and he end up like gus hansen.
i have to say the other hands were allright, unlike the first - that was horrible watching a pro playing like that. i would like to have phil hellmuth commenting that hand, bet he would go crazy Big Smile
 Mober18/11/2016 21:04:24 GMT
Only the first hand? The second one was better, with that chase, with only a pair of 9's ? Smile
I would have checked, called the bb only here. Folded to a big bet.
But what do i know, im not a professional Smile

Hey ladies and gentlemen

No matter what people think of him, Isildur1 isn't just a degenerate gambler, he's also a great poker player. But he's a good exemple of how important bankroll management is. No matter how good you are, variance will get you someday and that's when you're gonna need a lot of discipline.

Still, he will be remembered as one of the most maniac player ever... His MTT style with a lot of overbets can run over tables!

I would rather say he is a good example that degenerate gamblers with a good amount of luck could represent themselves as great players. I really think he is legit crazy who are doing things for the sake of an occasional adrenaline rush.
Just like most of us.

No one is a degenerate gamble until they all start losing money.
Then they becomes ones.
Its is part of the game for them. They dont have goals.
I doubt any of them has one.
One of their goals, should have been to stop at some point playing poker professionally and
do something else with less risk.

This video shows that he can make a lot of mistakes too. In that PLO hand at around the 5:00 mark where he flops only top pair then turns an open handed when Phil Ivey just made the nuts and ends up all in on the turn in terrible shape, especially since Ivey has a small spades flush draw to block some of his straight outs... He doesn't have any full house outs either.
