Phil Ivey Announces Return To Live Tournaments In 2018

Phil Ivey has undoubtedly been missing this year from the poker spotlight as the poker pro focuses mainly on ‘personal and family problems' as well as playing only Asian high stakes games.

His last major live tournament cash earnings were back in January 2016. He shocked many people, including his colleagues, opponents and fans alike, when he skipped out the entire WSOP this summer.

He has only been spotted playing a few days of high-stakes cash games in Bobby's Room at the Bellagio casino.

Still, there's great news for Ivey's fans, as he mentioned in a recent interview that he plans to be back on the poker circuit sometime in 2018. "I love tournaments. I will always play tournaments...Next year I am going to start playing again."

Most likely one of the personal problems he may have been referring to was the high-profile lawsuits brought against him by two casinos where he was accused of using a technique called edge sorting and that led to him winning more than $20 million.

Furthermore, he has been keeping himself busy promoting poker in the Asian market, and in the recent weeks he helped launch a poker app called Zhi You, created by a rich Chinese entrepreneur Sun Ji Jun.

In the meantime, the recently inducted Hall of Famer still continues to keep his poker prowess sharp by competing in high-stakes games, and it helps when he is temporarily residing in Hong Kong, allowing him to have easy access to the ‘Big Games' occurring in Macau and Manila. The games are actually noted for their privacy, and Ivey made sure it stays that way by not saying any more details on the big games he's been to.

Finally, the interviewer asked Ivey if he played poker on mainland China, and he replied no, reminding the interviewer that it is absolutely illegal to gamble anywhere in the country except in Macau.

Here's the video interview:

It will be tremendous to see Phil Ivey, unless you have to play him!!, back in tournament poker. He really is the marquee name in poker and everybody wants to see the best competing

Phil Ivey certainly took the taste of the poker games in Manila and Macau. There the pots are very big and the fight for money, adrenalin, respect or something else is fierce. Has taken his rival trail... Tom Durrrr Dwan. I think his fans will be most glad for his return in live tournaments.

He is away probably, because he is busy with the court case he has.
getting that money is more than enough for a years payment for any pro.
So why not focusing there.
Why his opponents got shocked with his absence? Smile

I don't know for sure, but I kinda think that he simply doesn't play tournaments because high stakes cash games somewhere in asia offer him a bigger roi than any of those tournaments could offer, so it's just a logical business decision.

Phil ivey is a legend, very good poker player and i seen him many time playing when watch YouTube, and remember him from full tilt poker promotions. He is playing from very bis money now at cash table but now it is good to know that he will start to play tournaments again

legend or no legend now with the court decision against him and no payout from baccarat game that he ripped apart and done casino through the anus, ivey will be more interested in cash games more than tournaments I think, he will want to recoup those millions that he thought he already had in his pockets.

When you lose that amount of money you need to play to recover or give up but for Phil Ivey is a shock i think. When he loses 400 k or 500 k is more acceptable but he lost many millions and is very ugly even for a professional player. Once again a casino finds a way to remain with the money. Very strange but it is the truth.

Phil Ivey has been mired in several lawsuits and he has been keeping a relatively low profile, in part because he does not want to become another lawsuit target.
Wishing him all the very best for each and every one of his future endeavors.

Phil Ivey back into the limelight.....hang on....he has been in the limelight recently but not necessarily in a good way for himself or the game. Anyways, it will be great to see the man back at the tables playing his game and I will be interested to see how successful he can be over the coming year! Hold onto the handrails.... it could be an interesting ride!

As he can't spend his time playing Baccarat any more, after a string of defeats in the courts, it is back to the roots time. Even if he was always more a cash games player, but his tourney record is impressive as well.

Phil Ivey is just 40 years old. There are at least 40 years of personal and professional life left. I hope he will make an appearance at the final table in one of the prominent events such as WSOP main event, WSOP Europe in 2018.

Nice to read, that Phil Ivey come back next year to the live tournament. In my oppinion he was one of the best and interesting players in the poker business. It was bad was happened with FT in the past, but i think he was a serious and good poker pro.

Phil Ivey is the sixth biggest earner of all time from tournament play and earned many more millions from private cash games. He once played heads-up poker (a one-on-one version of the game) against texan billionaire Andy Beal for three days and walked away with 16 millions dollars richer as a result.

We certainly await. This professional player Phil Ivey has that look which makes you to ask when playing poker to call or not to call to give re raise or not bla bla bla. I'm kidding. Is a very good player who will show us his game. I hope in future he will not be in trouble with casinos.
