On Sunday night, the highly anticipated Poker Hall of Fame ceremony was held in tandem with the 2022 WSOP Main Event final table and the Hall of Fame Bounty Tournament at Bally's & Paris Las Vegas.
A governing council proudly announced the induction of their 61st member - the late poker pro Layne Flack - into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Flack was one out of the 10 nominees selected by the 32 living members of Poker Hall of Fame. The other nominees were Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Brian Rast, Isai Scheinberg, Josh Arieh, Kathy Liebert, Lon McEachern & Norman Chad, Matt Savage, Michael Mizrachi and Mike Matusow.
Known as one of the best ever seen in the region, Layne Flack's legacy is adorned with six World Series of Poker gold bracelets. After winning two consecutive Legends of Poker tournaments in 1999, he was famously nicknamed "Back to Back Flack" and regarded as one of the best poker players in the world. He scored his sixth and last bracelet at the 39th annual WSOP in 2008. Flack then has played in numerous WSOP tournaments, making his final mark in 2020 during the No Limit Hold'em Senior's Event.
Derick "Tex" Barch, WSOP bracelet winner and also Flack's dear friend, offered a few words in honor of Flack's induction into the Poker Hall of Fame.
"He (Flack) was an amazing friend, more like a brother. Through good, bad and all his mischief - Layne had your back! Layne was close to my children. He would come and spend weeks at our house. Always entertaining them, taking them places and making sure it was all about them. When my daughter died this past January, one thing that brought comfort to me was to know that Layne would be there to greet her, and they could laugh together, in eternity."
To be considered as a nominee for the PHOF, a player should be at least 40 years old, played for high stakes, has played poker against top competition, and played well enough to stand the test of time and has earned the respect and admiration of their peers. Non-players should have contributed to the overall progress and growth of the game, with unforgettable positive and long-lasting results.
