On Sunday night, the highly anticipated Poker Hall of Fame ceremony was held in tandem with the Poker Hall of Fame Bounty Tournament at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
On July 14, the WSOP proudly announced the induction of their 63rd member - poker pro Patrik Antonius - into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Antonius was one out of the 10 nominees selected by the 32 living members of Poker Hall of Fame. The other nominees were Barny Boatman, Bill Smith, Isai Scheinberg, Josh Arieh, John Cernuto, Kathy Liebert, Matt Savage, Mike Matusow, and Ted Forrest.
Patrik Antonius, from Helsinki, Finland, is one of the most successful European poker players, ranking 36th all-time in career earnings with $22,995,774 to date. In 2023, Antonius made history by winning a $1,978,000 cash game pot, the biggest ever on a US livestream broadcast. Antonius edged "Miami" John Cernuto and Isai Scheinberg in the voting to secure his 2024 nomination.
Executive Director of the WSOP Ty Stewart said:
"In the modern era of poker, few have been as bold and fearless as Patrik Antonius. A force both online and live, we're thrilled to see Patrik's high-stakes career acknowledged by legends who have added the first international player to the Poker Hall of Fame in a number of years."
In his PHoF induction ceremony, Antonius was joined by his family, friends and fans inside the Paris Ballroom at Paris Las Vegas before delivering the ceremonial "Shuffle Up and Deal" for Event #95, the annual $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty No-Limit Hold'em.
After the induction ceremony, the WSOP unveiled Antonius' photo at the Hall of Fame Poker Room inside Horseshoe Las Vegas. Just opened in July 2023, the room features the first-of-its-kind Poker Hall of Fame exhibit acknowledging poker's most legendary players with a Gallery of Champions, WSOP bracelets and rings.
To be considered as a nominee for the PHOF, a player should be at least 40 years old, played for high stakes, has played poker against top competition, and played well enough to stand the test of time and has earned the respect and admiration of their peers. Non-players should have contributed to the overall progress and growth of the game, with unforgettable positive and long-lasting results.
