PCA 2013: Ashton Griffin Takes Overall Lead In The Main Event

Just like the organisers predicted, Day 1B of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event attracted a massive field. A total of 649 players entered the second starting day and lots of familiar faces could be spotted at the tables, including actor Jason Alexander, sports star Michael Phelps and poker pros Tom Dwan, Phil Hellmuth, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Phil Ivey.

Approximately 375 players made it through the day and will join the 150 or so from Day 1A for Day 2. Of the people mentioned above, Grospellier, Alexander and Tom Dwan failed to make it through Day 1B. "The Grinder" played extremly well and accumulated a stack of 216,900 - about 40k less than the chip leader Ashton Griffin (253,700), who is the overall chip leader heading into Day 2.

Michael Phelps has won an incredible 18 gold medals at the Olympics, including his last win of the 4x100-Meter Medley Relay at the London 2012 Olympics. After the Olympics in London came to an end, about a month ago, Phelps announced that he was retiring from swimming, and he also revelaed in some interviews that he would spend more time playing poker.

Anthony Gregg Wins WPT Parx Open Poker Classic ($416,127)

A big congratulations to Anthony Gregg on winnings World Poker Tour Parx Open Poker Classic. Gregg outlasted a field of 500 players that included many big names in the poker world. In the final hand Gregg limped for 250,000 and Stephen Reynolds moved all in for about 3.4 million. Gregg made the call with K[h]9[d] and Reynolds showed A[d]4[h] and needed to hold to stay alive.

Lady Gaga invited to APT

APT (Asian Poker Tour) started yesterday at the Chinese gaming island Macau. The tournament will be played from 12th till 22nd August and it will include 15 events. The main event Day 1a will be played on 20th August, and Day 1b on 21st August. Because they have divided up Day 1 into two starting days one can assume that the crew behind the tournament expects many people to take part.

The most interesting event in APT will for sure be the celebrity tournament where all the money will go to charity. Lady Gaga, the artist with the mega hit "Poker Face" has been invited for this tournament. She has a gig in Macau on the 15th August and the crew behind APT really hopes she will show up, and maybe also show her "Poker Face"?

Another big name that has been invited to play in the celeb tournament is, Michael Phelps, the professional swimmer from USA who's considered to be the greatest swimmer of all time.

Michael Phelps recently went on a trip to Las Vegas with some of his friends to stay at a huge suite at the Palms Hotel & Casino. During his stay he contacted Doyle Brunson and asked to meet up with the poker legend. They met up at the Palms and according to Doyle the swimmer was very enthusiastic and eager to learn more about poker, he asked a lot of questions and showed a huge interest in poker.
