On Tuesday, PokerStars announced that Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and the site mutually had agreed to part ways. The very next day the world's largest poker site signed comedian Gerry Dee, the star in the weekly sitcom Mr.D on CBC. Dee will represent PokerStars' free-play site PokerStars.net and will be starring in an upcoming PokerStars commercial that will air throughout the fall to promote a series of free online poker tournaments where Canadians can win a trip to Bahamas and play in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

"I'm better at math and statistics than the teacher you see on TV, so I'm not a bad poker player. I'm no pro but I've always been a bit of a poker buff. I really admire the skill it takes to compete at the top level. I'm excited about this partnership and am looking forward to improving my game!" said Dee.

so pokerstars changed one comedian with other...guess they want to appeal to recreational players more- since they are the ones who start to disappear from the radar and this is not what any poker room wants...at least this is a fresh approach, we will see if it bares any fruits...good to see jokerstars at least trying

I keep thinking Blom will give his face to FTP. But we can see that Pokerstars is investing on known faces from other sectors than poker to come and promote the site. First it was with Rafael Nadal, spanish tennis pro (calling for europeans who like and probably play tennis, which means they are from high class in financial terms), and now with this american comedian (from USA, remembering everyone they can restart playing there). So, the question now is: Who will be the Asian figure that will sign with Stars in the next month? Is Jackie Chan as known in the Asian world as he is in USA and in Europe (due to the popularity of his movies)?

having celebrities in poker will make the business more bigger..better ads...better promotions...pokerstars will monopolize poker business..that what this company is doing...

sign some famous faces - increase popularity, standard marketing approach, I personally want to see more deals like this.

Also why does everyone keep hating on stars, jokerstars and all that, I think they are by far the best site to play on, they do business right and they reward their players, i mean what more can you ask for. I've played on it for years, not professionally or anything, and had my share of badbeats, suckouts, and all that nasty stuff, still I don't go complaining saying how rigged it is, if its statistically possible it will happen sooner or later, so I really doubt any of you out there been selected to run worse than others, so if you think you are really unlucky, go see a gypsy or something to lift the curse, just don't blame an awesome poker site like stars.
