Olivier Busquet and JC Alvardo agreed to a MMA fight in September 2015. Alvardo, who has been training Jiu-jitsu on and off since 2011, put up $150,000 while Busquet, the larger of the who but with no formal martial arts training, risked $120,000.
Another six players entered Day 2 of the EPT Malta Main Event to bring the total field size to 895 players and a prize pool of €4,340,750 - of which 121 players will receive a share of (the winner will take home €810,400).
A big congratulations to Olivier Busquet, the winner of the 2014 European Poker Tour Super High Roller - the biggest Super High Roller in EPT history! It was the 32-year-old poker pro's first major tournament victory outside of his native United States.
The 2014 EPT Barcelona Super High Roller (buy-in €50,000) attracted a total field of 77 entries - which makes it the biggest Super High Roller in EPT history! Now, after 2 days of play, there are only nine players left with the chance of taking down the tournament and its €1,016,700 first-place prize!
57 players registered for the first day of the European Poker Tour Barcelona Super High Roller (€50,000 buy-in) and 14 re-entries were made throughout the day. In total, 49 players made it through the day and the chip leader is Ryan Fee. Here are some of the poker stars who will join Fee at the poker tables today:
56 players became 17 players during Day 4 of the European Poker Tour Berlin main event and, unfortunately, many notables were among the ones who didn't make it: Liv Boeree, Sandra Naujoks, Boris Becker, Day 1 chip leader Rony Voth and the Finnish Day 2 and Day 3 chip leader Aku Joenausta.
Finnish poker player Aku Joentausta didn't let go of his lead during Day 3 of the Main Event when the field was narrowed down from 170 to 56 players. The young Finn played extremely well and it almost seemed like he took home every single pot. He will bring 1,039,000 chips today, ahead of the only other player with a seven figure stack: Emil Ohlsson, from Sweden, with 1,011,000.
The second flight of the European Poker Tour Berlin main event saw a field of 565 players, which means that a total of 912 players entered the tournament, making it the second largest EPT Berlin in history. At the end of Day 1B there were 314 players left and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi had the lead with 175,400 chips.
Mizrachi is ranked fourth when Day 2 kicks off in a few hours, and he will be joined at the table by famous poker pros such as Sorel Mizzi (119,500), Tobias Reinkeimer (81,100), Marvin Rettenmaier (47,500), Olivier Busquet (47,100) and Eugene Katchalov (38,600).
Here are the top five stacks heading to Day 2: 1 Ronny Voth 196,100 2 Mike Kunze 188,000 3 Thomas Richter 176,100 4 Michael Mizrachi 175,400 5 Sebastian Trisch 173,50
Day 3 of EPT Campione main event saw a field of 99 players. The plan was to play down to 24 players in six levels and call it a day, but the tournament directors decided to to let the action continue a bit into level 7 and then stopped with 24 players. It was a very long day and most of the players probably went straight to bed for some well-needed sleep.
As Benny Spindler secured his win in the ETP Main Event, his fellow countryman Philipp Gruissem took the first prize in the EPT High Roller Event, giving him a neat payout of £450,200. The final battle was decided on Kurganov's Qd-6s and Gruissem's 9c-9h.
1. Philipp Gruissem, Germany £450,200 2. Igor Kurganov, Russia £318,300 3. Rob Akery, UK £205,500 4. Olivier Busquet, USA £171,200 5. Adrian Bussman, Sweden £102,250 6. Joel Nordkvist, Sweden £72,950 7. Sam Trickett, UK £68,800 8. Michael Tureniec, Sweden £58,400
There are now only 8 of 75 players with chips left in the EPT London high roller event. This means that the final table is set and all players are guaranteed at least £58,400 each from the £1,485,000 prizepool. The winner will take home amazing £511,300 while the runner-up will get £321,000.
In a big lead is Igor Kurganov (picture), from Germany, with 854,000. In second place is Robery Akery, from UK, with just about 622,000. Three players to keep an eye on the final table today are Olivier Busquet, Samuel Trickett and Michael Tureniec - great tournament players with fantastic results in the past!
WPT Borgata attracted a huge starting field this year. Not so many notable poker players, but the tournament turned out great even though the most stars decided to play WSOPE in London instead. Of the huge starting field it came to be the 6 players below who made it to the final table.
Olivier Busquet - 10,350,000 Yanick Brodeur - 5,780,000 Ivan Mamuzic - 5,655,000 Jeremy Brown - 5,480,000 Keith Crowder - 2,750,000 Kenny Nguyen - 600,000
Olivier Busquet, from New York, had a big chip lead as the final table started. It was a very well deserved chip lead, and to be honest it seemed like nothing could stop him from grabbing the first prize of $925,514. But the way to the win of WPT Borgata wasn't all that easy for the American.
World Poker Tour Borgata attracted a huge starting field this year. Maybe because of the low buy-in, or maybe because not so many stars decided to play this time. Many of the bigger names are instead playing World Series of Poker Europe in London at the moment.
Whatever the reason might be for so many participants this time, the tournament is now down to the 6 players below who are going to play the final table. No notable names as you can see, but it will be a very entersting to see whether the big chip leader, Olivier Bisquet, from New York, can manage to keep the big lead and get another great result this year (311th place in 2009 WSOP Main Event).
