Boston-Pittsburgh Peng. 01:30 2,25 3,80 2,55
Penguins team scope: Pittsburgh enters 3-0-1 in its past four road games. Rookie forward Scott Wilson scored in a 4-3 win Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres and has goals in three straight. Forward Phil Kessel has four goals in his past five games. Forwards Evgeni Malkin (lower-body injury) and Nick Bonino (hand) practiced in regular jerseys Tuesday. "It's a big step for them to join the team," coach Mike Sullivan told the Penguins website, though neither player will return to the lineup Wednesday. Malkin skated on the top power-play unit with Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, Kessel and Kris Letang. Bonino took his traditional spot on one of the penalty-killing units. "It's always good to see guys progress," Crosby told the Penguins website. Defenseman Ben Lovejoy will be out long-term with an upper-body injury sustained Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Bruins team scope: Boston had the day off Tuesday and will return to the ice looking to establish better play in its own arena. The Bruins are 4-8-1 in their past 13 at TD Garden and 12-15-3 at home this season. They've allowed 15 goals in their past two home games, a 9-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 9 and a 6-4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, a game that followed a 4-2-0 road trip. "We seem to play our system [on the road], really stick to the script," forward Brad Marchand told the Boston Globe. "At home we kind of deviate and that ends up costing us." Forwards Loui Eriksson and Matt Beleskey each scored twice against the Blue Jackets; each has three goals in two games, and Eriksson has eight goals in his past nine games.

Carolina-Boston Bruins 01:00 2,45 3,80 2,35
Bruins team scope: Boston has scored 16 goals in its past three games (2-1-0). A 5-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday ended a two-game skid at TD Garden, where they are 13-15-3, and the Bruins hope to build off that against the Hurricanes. "They play with a lot of energy, and that's kind of what we're trying to do," defenseman Torey Krug told the Bruins website Thursday. "And I think their transition game is really strong, so it's a good test for sure, going into their building tomorrow." Krug has an assist in each of the past three games. Pastrnak scored two goals against Pittsburgh and has four points in the past two games after he had 14 in his first 28. Boston is 20-7-3 on the road.
Hurricanes team scope: Carolina is 2-3-0 in its past five games after a 3-1 loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. Goalie Eddie Lack likely will make his first start since Feb. 18 after Cam Ward allowed three goals on 29 shots against the Maple Leafs. Forwards Jay McClement and forward Andrej Nestrasil were injured. Nestrasil (lower body) took a hard hit into the boards from Toronto center Nazem Kadri late in the second period. McClement (upper body) left the game after his first shift, having played 24 seconds. Defenseman John-Michael Liles, who scored the Carolina goal, said the Hurricanes need to be better. "We need more of a sense of urgency," Liles said. "We're trying to come from behind for a playoff spot, and I don't think our sense of urgency was quite where it needs to be tonight."

Colorado-Detroit RW 02:00 2,35 3,80 2,45
Red Wings team scope: Detroit comes to Coors Field with a three-point lead on the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings are 14-10-5 on the road, but are 0-4-2 in their past six games away from Detroit. They ended a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 shootout win at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Ericsson is expected to return after missing five games with a lower-body injury. Mrazek will start; he has a 1-0-2 career record against the Avalanche. "They have a lot of dynamic players," coach Jeff Blashill said of Colorado. "It'll be a heck of a challenge against them."
Avalanche team scope: Colorado has won four of its past five games and has the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference. It's the first outdoor game for the Avalanche, but coach Patrick Roy wants his team to stay focused on winning the game. "There's a lot of distraction," he said after a half-hour practice at Coors Field, "but at the same time, these are big points for us at this time of the year. It is important to remain focused." Varlamov will start; he has a 2-5-1 career record against the Red Wings but made 43 saves in the shootout victory at Detroit, a game in which Colorado was outshot 45-21. Right wing Jarome Iginla has three goals and three assists during a five-game scoring streak. With 607 NHL goals, he is one behind Dino Ciccarelli for 17th place on the all-time list. "Once the puck drops, it's game time, it's all about winning," said Iginla, who played outdoors for the Calgary Flames in the 2011 Heritage Classic. "At the same time, when you get on the bench and you get a little breather, it'll be pretty cool to look around and see the atmosphere and the crowd."
