Every poker fan or player is familiar with the name of Phil Ivey, an American living legend who has won 10 WSOP bracelets and dubbed by Wikipedia as the unofficial best poker player in the world.
As Ivey continues to keep his standards high and mainly focuses his gameplay on high-stakes cash games instead of participating from time to time at tournaments, it has now resulted to the 42-year-old poker pro being "kicked out" of the top 10 All Time Money list as Jason Koon, Dan Smith and Steve O'Dwyer surpassed him thanks to their lucrative finishes in various tournaments.
The very first Annual American Poker Awards Ceremony (sponsored by PokerStars) took place in Beverly Hills on February 27th, 2015, and around 200 guests attended the event, including elite poker players, industry leaders and operators from the North American Poker World.
Day 1c of the 2015 Aussie Millions AU$10,600 Main Event drew a field of 356 players, which means that the total field of this year is 642 (26 less than last year). However, registration is open until Day 2 so the final number will be announced in tomorrow's update here on Bankrollmob.
283 (tbc) players (+53 re-entries) entered Day 1 of the €10,300 High Roller on Monday to break yet another EPT record! The previous record for a high roller with the same buy-in was 181 entries (40 re-entries) at last season's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure!
The six-handed final table of the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic Main Event lasted for 156 hands until Dan Smith defeated Gary Benson heads-up to lay hands on the massive $1,161,135 first prize, a WPT Champions Trophy and a $15,400 seat into the season-ending WPT World Championship in April, 2014.
The final table of six is finally set after 5 intensive days of play at Bellagio in Las Vegas. It took about 9 hours of play for the final 21 players to become a final table of 6 in the 5th day of the tournament. Dan Smith, a very experienced live tournament player with over $4.5m in winnings to date, bagged up the largest stack (3.9 million) at the end of play, and the only other player to accumulate over 3 million chips was Gary Benson (3.1 million).
A field of 108 took seats at the first day of the European Poker Tour Monaco Grand Final Main Event. At the end of the day there were about 53 players left and Dan Smith (picture) held the lead with 136,500 chips. Other big names that made it through the day with 100k+ stacks were Freddy Deeb, Jake Cody and Paul Volpe.
Day 1A attracted an unusually small field for a Grand Final Main Event (163 players more took part last year), but let's hope that a massive field will show up for Day 1B today! We will be back with another brief update tomorrow morning.
Dan Smith is a player in form. Not satisfied with booking $3,650,758 in live tournament winnings this year, a large portion of which comes from his €962,925 win in the EPT9 Barcelona Super High Roller, but Smith, just a matter of hours ago, secured first place in the $215 Sunday Million for $219,504.25. It's his largest win on PokerStars and one that will be tough to beat.
The High Roller event ($10,000 buy-in) attracted a field of 111 players when it kicked off yesterday in the afternoon. Many players invested another €10,000 because it was possible to re-load one time, which made the total prize pool €1,087,800. In the picture you can see Dan Smith, the Super high Roller winner, capping his cards with a bundle of buy-in.
Now, Day 2 of the event is underway and 82 players still have a chance of taking home the first place prize of €359,000. Taylor Paur is the chip leader with 220,400. In the top of the field are also, for example, PokerStars Team Pros Jonathan Duhamel (140,100), Bertrand Grospellier (129,100) and Angel Guillen (123,700).
A total of 55 players entered (nine €48,500 re-loads) entered the EPT Barcelona Super High Roller (€50,000 buy-in), which generated a total prize pool of €3,072,960 - the richest tournament ever held in Spain! It ended up being Dan Smith, 23, who took home the tournament for impressive €962,925 after defeating well-known Mexican pro JC Alvarado, 27, heads up.
