It is the norm that poker pros will usually make side bets while they play in the tournaments, and the events in World Series of Poker (WSOP) are no exception. EPT Grand Final Super High Roller

Tags: ept grand final super high roller, erik seidel, jason mercier, phil ivey, sam trickett, viktor blom
Posted on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 by "T".

While most poker players think €100,000 is an awful lot of money, there are some who have the bankroll to use it for a single tournament. On Monday, the 2013 EPT Monaco Super High Roller (€100k buy-in) kicked off and saw, believe it or not, 48 entries. Phil Ivey was in for two bullets, but still he wasn't among the 29 players who survived the day.

Jason Mercier had better "luck" than Mr. Ivey. He bagged up 1,183,000 chips and has about 1 million more than his closest opponent - Sorel Mizzi. Here are few other big names who made it through Day 1: Viktor Blom, Sam Trickett, Erik Seidel, Faraz Jaka and Scott Seiver.

There's €4,900,000 in the prize pool at the moment, but most probably it will pass the 5 million mark today as registration close at noon. It will be interesting to see if Phil Ivey makes another attempt!

"The Grinder" played loose-aggressive game that took him, and his opponents, for a wild rollercoaster ride. Eventually he was eliminated in in Level 11 where he joined Vanessa Rousso, Joe Hachem, Phil Ivey, Antonio Esfandiari and many other big names on the rail.

On Thursday, a total of 52 players returned to play Day 2 of Event #5: Mixed Max (No-Limit Hold'em). Jennifer Tilly had the lead when the day started and Faraz Jaka was the closest opponent.

After several hours of 6-handed action, just as planned, the second day of the tournament ended when 16 players had chips left, and both Jaka (3rd place with 258,100) and Tilly (9th place with 163,300) were among the survivors. Other notables to make it through the day were, for example, Phil Hellmuth, Marvin Rettenmaier, Bertrand Grospellier and Jason Mercier. However all the pros mentioned above were overshadowed by another player...

PokerStars' World Championship of Online Poker Event #64: 8-Game High Roller came to an end a few hours ago. 93 players particapted and PokerStars can't be more happy with the outcome as Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier ($253 425) won the tournament and Daniel Negreanu finished 3rd for $130 200.

In total, 12 players received a piece of the prize pool, including famous players such as Niki "RealAndyBeal" Jedlicka and Sorel Mizzi. Sweden's very own Viktor "Isildur1" Blom also took part in the tournament, but unfortunately he didn't make it to the money. In total, Blom has played 15 WCOOP events and not cashed in a single one of them. Let's hope he has better luck at the nosebleed tables this week!

A lot of well-known players hit the rail during Day 2 of the World Poker Tour Malta main event. Just to mention a few of them: Jason Mercier, Erik Cajelais, Jonathan Duhamel and 12-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who was visibly upset when his A[c]K[c] didn't make it in a three-way all in.

WPT Malta: Jackson Genovesi Leads the Way Into Day 2

Posted on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 by "T".

The second starting day of WPT Malta attracted 105 players, meaning that that the total field size of the Main Event was 169-players. 71 players survived Day 1b and Jackson Genovesi had the biggest stack when it came to an end - 147,500 - about 24k more than Casper Toft, the "winner" of Day 1a. Joining Genovesi to Day 2, which starts in a few hours, are poker stars such as Jonathan Duhamel, Tony G, Jason Mercier and Vanessa Selbst.

In total, 104 players of 169 will return to the tables today with hopes of making it to the final table, where the winner will take home €120,000. Maybe not the biggest first prize we have seen on the World Poker Tour, but with so many good players taking part there is definitely some prestige in winning WPT Malta.

Just a few hours after Matthew Salsberg, producer of the popular TV series Weeds, took down the WPT Grand Prix de Paris, the main event at WPT Malta kicked off at Portomaso Casino in St.Julians. Day 1a only attacked a field of 64 players willing to pay the €3,300 buy-in. The reason for this might be because of several expensive WCOOP on PokerStrars and/or that WPT Grand Prix de Paris was to close.

Posted on Friday, May 04, 2012 by "T".

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is back in first place on Global Poker Index thanks to his third-place finish in the €100,000 Super High Roller that was played during EPT Monte-Carlo.

Jason Mercier, who had the lead last week, has now dropped to second place. This is the first time since December last year that ElkY is back in the lead on GPI's list. However, it extremely tight among the top players, so we might see a change already next week.
